Meeting The Needs Of Modern Campers

I shared about some things I gleaned from a George Barna seminar and it made me think to share this in case anyone might benefit from it. It's a proposal I presented a few years ago to some directors at International Youth Camp. I was saved at youth camp and I want to see that ministry expand. I thi...

"No people, I want a normal life... leave us!" She better consider if she really wants a normal life or not. In one episode, they call a chinese restaurant because they're craving it, although it's closed. Mr. Chopsticks doesn't just open his restaurant for any ordinary person. I do like this show ...

Being Bobby Brown

I had a chance to slow my car down and check out this "train wreck" this weekend. What a riot! I have never been a fan of Bobby Brown, only kinda liked his 80s solo stuff, but thought he was so bad for Whitney Houston. Well, if you watch this show, you see she's just as bad for him. It's funny to se...

We did have a couple of 'special needs' campers that week who also had trouble with keeping their hands clean. I won't go into detail here but just to say there was probably good reason for being nauseous. I am no expert with the mentally challenged (I did work with them for about three years), but ...

I thought I'd share this humorous story before going to bed tonight. One year we were working at the Georgia camp and we had gotten steak for supper on banquet night. Normally, we did have leftovers from the suppers and the cooks would put them in bread loaf plastic bags and leave them on the counte...

Re: My Retirement

It was a great run, and stepping aside is a little bitter-sweet, but was the right time. I know what you mean, not so much with total retirement but I directed a retreat for several years and knew when others things competed a little too strongly with my focus for it. I would encourage you, however...

Things I remember from being little kid in camp: :D Of course, the services! :D The little songbooks from Music class we'd take home and keep singing the "camp songs." One year "Soldier Of The Light" was the camp theme song. :D Football and dunking each other in the pool. Swimming at night was also ...

I believe I'd be correct in estimating that the Georgia camps average 100-150 different campers per week through four weeks of camping.

Youth Camps

It's that time of year again! Youth camps are starting all around the country and globe and kids are excited! Camp holds a special place in my heart because it's where, as a kid, I first heard the gospel message in a manner I could understand. Like the song says, "I can take you to the place." Year ...

I am one of the more reserved folks you'll find in a service most of the time. However, there have been times that God called me out of my comfort zone to do things that are sometimes slightly "out of the ordinary" and sometimes downright "ludicrous." :D Sometimes there was fleshly motivations and e...
