I've heard that a lot of people did not like last season's 24 series (two years ago, I think) because it got "bogged down" in the drama of family complications. The writers said they were going to downplay that and make it less complicated.

Did anyone else not like that aspect of it? I liked it. I liked the episodes where Jack's daughter was in it (Elisha Cuthbert is cute!) and where his dad was complicating things. It wasn't realistic, of course, but 24 is not realistic in any case. I hope they don't dumb down the plot to mere action, although, of course, the action is great.

I lost interest in the show after season 2. May give it a go again this year.

I watched the 2 hour redemption show in Dec.

have never watched b4 then.

I have DVR scheduled to record Mon.

With a new season will I be lost for not watching previous seasons.


Just wondering.

That's a good question. In the previews for this coming season I see familiar faces, so maybe it builds on previous seasons. My guess is that you will be okay even without the previous seasons. 24 is exciting but it's not as complicated as, for example, Alias was.

That's a great way to watch it: one episode right after the other. I watched the first three seasons like that. Made for tense, enjoyable marathon weekends.

don't know. we just started season 5. so far, so good, in fact, it is starting out much better, in my opinion than season 4.

one thing I caught though - the presidents "crazy" wife was leaving her room in the last episode we watched and she called "Walt Cummings", "Paul". weirdness.

looking forward to both these next seasons so we can watch the 24 movie (recorded to dvd).

I've been hooked since season 2, and watched Redemption, and watched tonight's 2 hour premiere. Was pretty good. Lots and lots of new characters. Janeane Garfolo (sp?) comes across like Chloe. Not sure I like her character, although (guilty confession) I've always liked her roles.

I did not know that 24 season premiere was tonight and tomorrow night. Missed tonight.

I agree about the likeness. I saw Chloe in the previews so thought she would be there this time. I guess it was a hook. My favorite so far was Marisol Nichols as Nadia.



Looks like the female president premise turned out to be a bit before its time, although when the script was written they may have assumed that it wouldn't be. I'm not sure I like the moralizing that Jack did before the senator and FBI agent. Something tells me that an action TV show is not exactly the right medium for moral training.

It's been so long since 24 was on that I forgot what happened last season. I watched last night and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Yes, I thought it was back to form. Very curious why they had Janeane Garafolo on 24 but I think she said she needed the work, since her career as a political commentator did not take flight. I saw in the previews a Mr. Bill Buchanan coming back to help Jack, so I'll be looking forward to seeing him.

Marisol Nichols is easy on the eyes, for sure. I liked her character.

As for moralizing, I am not so sure that was the intent as much as it was a device to just set the character of Jack Bauer for new viewers of 24. We get a very glossed over glimpse of his personality that is consistent with the Bauer of the past for those veteran viewers, and gives about 3 minutes of insight (and, really, that's all that was needed given what followed) for the ones who haven't really watched it before. He didn't say anything before Senator Red (sorry, he'll always be Red to me) that he hasn't said about 75 times over the course of the series.

I don't remember an explicit justification of torture in previous episodes. But when Bauer was talking to the FBI driver, I thought perhaps the Senate hearing might have been designed to be a setup, since it's likely that Hollywood writers are anti-torture, and the FBI driver conversation was meant to be a moralizing foil to the senate-hearing justification. Oh well, que sera, sera.

In general, the casting felt a little weak this time around. Maybe some of the characters will grow on us.

I liked the new FBI agent, Agent Walker. I can't stand Jeanine Garafalo, so I hope she gets offed fairly quickly.

Billy, you can still watch the first two episodes of 24 here. Shows that are viewable on the Internet are usually available for at least a couple of weeks after airing.

Billy, I have all the seasons on DVD so you can just borrow mine.

I am a 24 junkie. Love the show.

I like Walker too.

So far I am enjoying this season.
