Do you give up your seat to females, the elderly?

I was at the car wash this afternoon. After having read this post this morning, I decided to pay attention and see what people would do. I am a white haired senior woman. There were 6 chairs and all were taken when I arrived. There was one older woman, one middle aged woman, a young woman and 3 men all much younger than me. One man had his feet stretched out making it difficult to walk around him. Not one person offered me their chair. I stood for about 10 minutes and one of the ladies left. A man standing near the seating area immediately took the chair. I decided to go outside and sit on a bench in the sun. Much better atmosphere!

I always say thank you when someone opens a door for me. Now, as I find myself older, many times someone will offer to help with lifting things from my cart at the store. I know that courtesy is still alive but the experience today made me more aware to always be courteous and thankful when someone helps me.

Generally when I see that people are entering a building at the same time I am, I will hold the door open for them--regardless of their age or sex. I just think it's the polite thing to do. Usually don't get a "thank you," but then that's not why I do it!

Pastor Chip, that's funny. I do that, too. I have an inner joke running in my brain that I'm an interminable usher. If I hold the door open for one person, 4 more follow. I tend to just hang there until they're all in. You know, I took one of those "gifts" assessments years ago, several actually, and consistently my number one "gift" is helps. And, true to form, that's where I find the most satisfaction.

LOL....hadn't thought of it quite that way, but I guess I'm an interminable usher, too. I'll probably think of that everytime I hold a door open now.

On the light side, my wife's cat Dolly will if the door is pulled to but not fully closed will take her paw and open the door her self, but if I'm close by she will stand there and look up at me untill I open the door for.
