did you ever "rough it" (accommodations-wise) just so you could attend?

Yes I guess if you would classify staying in a camper 'roughing it'. I think I did that two years. I turly enjoyed it. I remember one year was in 1988.

in 1978 I slept in the basement of the old Eastview Church (now Durkee Road)....very, very cold water for a shower...and a bus that came by early in the morning, and late at night....

But it was worth it....I only had 20 dollars for the 3 nights I was at the Assembly...and I never went hungry....it was the first time I would get to spend more than ONE DAY at the General Assembly.

It was a "game-changer" for me....I'll never forget all the LORD did in my heart during those precious times at the General Assembly.

Basement of the WildWood Church on the cots. Ate at the makeshift stands across from the Tabernacle.

First year in Chatanooga....in a home, really bad and the bed collapsed.

One night in a cabin between Cleveland and duck Town with rats and roaches as bad as I now see in third world countries.

and Cleveland TN, was in 1976...I went to the General Assembly for ONE DAY...for the "Alabama State March"....Brother Curry would always have a few thousand people there for that big event.

I'll never forget how thrilled I was to see so many brothers and sisters in Christ...worshipping the LORD...a marvelous move of the Spirit....

Why do you think there is not more excitement about the Assembly now days?? Is it because most can afford to travel now and years ago people had to sacrifice to attend?? I can't say my family ever really "roughed it" but I did find it a long enduring sacrifice (slow torture was more like it) to sit through all that as a kid...

Just curious???

I always thought of the General Assembly as a HUGE FAMILY REUNION.

I try to keep this paradigm, but maybe I am too new. so many people make excuses to not go, instead of finding ways they can go. well, at least from this area of the world. not sure why the difference, but it is there. it seems that many only go, if they are appointed, or some other direct change for them. I have missed one Assembly ever since choosing to be part of this organization. I can't wait for next week!!!

but the finances are hard-pressed right now...and I had to use some vacation days/time for health reasons earlier this summer.

There was a "warm, family feeling" in those General Assemblies of yesteryear...

Don't want to make this sound worse than it is - but think there is not more excitement about the Assembly because there is not that much excitement at the Assembly? Had several from our church/area that attended the last one in Nashville as it was within reasonable driving distance - and although there were some memorable moments - most in our group were somewhat let down & thought it lacked the movement of the Holy Ghost that they remembered in Assemblies of days past. The one service we remembered where people flooded the floor praying & seeking - there seemed to be an equally mad exodus of people from the rest of the auditorium leaving (which was not only distracting - but made me wander why they were even there to begin with?)

Although this year was also within driving distance - don't think many from our area are going. Said they could gain just as much from watching it online with a lot less walking & saving the parking and hotel costs?

Taped news papers over the windows so we could sleep in the car. Parked close to the back lower corner of the Old Tabernacle. They left the bath rm open so we could go in and wash up. I didn't know how heaven could be any better. BTW no AC, but the heater worked gooood.
