I been doing the P90X lately, been lazy on the exercise part, but staying with the diet pretty good. Down about 5-7 pounds.

The diet right now is very high protein, but low in carbs. As you go through the 90 days it goes down in protein and up in carbs.

I will get back to exercising with the DVDs, just a little bit of work I have noticed some small changes. The exercises are a lot harder than I thought they would be.

My niece (well, technically my wife's niece but I've known her for 24 years so....) does P90X. She's already in good shape, very athletic, but man her arms are kind of ripped now.

It is the first time that I'm happy with eating this way, and like Yogi Berra said, 90% of it is half mental. I've lost weight every time. The first time was after I was misdiagnosed as diabetic by a CRNP. Scared me good, but boy I lost 20 pounds in a hurry. I've been as high as 228 in the past 3 months. That's the heaviest ever for me. I've weighed consistently between 200 and 210 for most of the past 20 years; I've been down as low as 180 after dropping about 30 pounds while at TC in 1992, but that didn't last. I'm 5'10", so I probably ought to weigh about 180, but that's not going to happen. If I can get to 195 and maintain, I'll be very happy. That's my target range. I never want to see 200 again after this. Strange thing is that I carry almost all of it in my waist/gut. So, that's not good. Good thing is that when I lose it, I'll be a lot more comfortable in my breeches.

According to the scales tonight, I'm at 214 even. I'm happy with that progress. I guess I can stand to eat some more beef jerky and cheese for a while longer.

I did this video earlier before I started P90X. I just finished editing it.
I have been a little on and off the exercise part, stayed on the diet part though. I have lost around 7 pounds though.

I just put it up on Youtube:

Take a look at http://formerlyfat.posterous.com/

I'm doing basically the South Beach Diet, which starts with a 2 week cleansing of NO WHITE FOOD: no bread, no rice, no potatoes, no dairy, nothing with SUGAR... you get the idea. That includes fruits and sugary veggies like carrots. Ziltch... nada.

You have to eat a LOT to lose weight! You must eat about 30 minutes after you get out of bed... eggs, meat - NO BREAD. 2 hours later, before you feel at all hungry, eat a snack (handful of unsalted almonds, celery with organic peanut butter, like that) and then a healthy lunch 2 hours later - I eat a LOT of salads for lunch (NO CROUTONS and not drowned in heavy salad dressing). My wife fixes me green salad with some boiled egg, and maybe tuna in spring water. 2 hours after lunch, you will not be hungry yet, but it's snack time again. 2 hours after that? Healthy dinner: I eat a lot of grilled fish/boneless, skinless chicken breast off the George Forman grill, with fresh veggies. Nothing from a can, box or bag is good for you as a general rule... if it wasn't a food 100 years ago, it's not a food for you.

Double your water intake. Flush your system all day. I probably tripled my water intake. I have a 24 oz. refillable water bottle that I drain several times a day + coffee (no cream or sugar) -- yes the water in coffee counts.

NO FOOD OR SNACKS AFTER DINNER. Night munching will kill your weight loss efforts. Exercise of some sort is a must. I do minimum 30 minutes on the treadmill daily, but something to get your metabolism up and heart rate up.

After the two weeks of breaking your addiction to carbs and sugars, you slowly add a little healthy stuff back. Whole grain breads and cereals (not whole wheat, WHOLE GRAIN) small apples, bananas, whole grain pasta.

I have pretty much stopped drinking anything but water at meals. Big glasses of sweet tea or soda are empty calories.

If your eating 100 year old food it's no wonder your losing weight.

Seriously Gary it sounds like your doing good. Keep it up.

Tried that some this past year, and it didn't work for me. I lost several pounds, but was not able to curb or suppress hunger. 500 calories a day about killed me (since my hunger was not diminished). I couldn't hack it. Plus the shots caused me stomach issues -- swelling and tightness. Was working for my wife though (who quit for the holidays and plans to start back), and has worked great for her mom.

Hey PG,

I subscribed to the Formerfat posterous. I have already switched my fluid intake to 90% water and coffee only...it wouldn't be hard to drop the 1 soda a day...However, I take my coffee with no cream BUT two Splenda packets...do you know if Splenda is acceptabel? I also switched my coffee to the half calf...was told caffiene is bad for weight loss...but I need a little!

Also, we bought a Gold's Gym Crosswalk 570 treadmill from Wal-mart...and a Marcy Platinum home gym off of craigslist...Now I just gotta get into a routine of using them...

I've found that changing my diet is going to be a key...I'm pretty tired all the time...we went bed shopping and I practically fell asleep during a Sleep Number presentation...so we're sacrificing and dropping a hunk of change on a Sleep Number C4....that should increase the quality of my sleep. Otherwise...exercising has been difficult...

Look forward to jumping in with you guys...I certainly need the encouragement...my goal weight is 170 so that I can be a military Chaplain for the COGOP....so that is 80lbs to drop...pray for me! I have two years to do it...but I'd like to do most of it this year.

Our coach, Jan, recommends STEVIA as a sweetener. I picked some up at Costco, but beware... it is (no joke) ten times more intensely sweet than sugar, so a TINY amount in a cup of coffee will blow your sox off! And as a coffee-holic, I did a little homework and most studies now suggest that coffee is not a problem. Enjoy your jolt.

You can do this, Daniel! One step, one day at a time.

I've lost about fifteen pounds, and all I am doing is eating only when I'm hungry and stopping as soon as I am full..It was a little bit hard to get used to at first b/c my hubby is a three-squares a day person but I know that my appetite has decreased since we are approaching middle age.. I don't eat a lot of sweets, but I do have dark chocolate on hand so a square or two is no big deal. I drink coffee with (the bad stuff) creamer every morning, and Pastor Gary I'm soooo glad I don't have to give that up!
..I press on to take hold of that
for which Christ took hold of me.

In the beginning of 2010 something told me to simply do this:

1. Eat less
2. Move more
3. Drink only water + black coffee (which I already do)

It's not a "diet" but it works for me. I'm losing an average of 5 pounds a month.

Hey, I'm down to 209 as of last night. That's about 20-21 pounds lost. Someone else noticed it, too. That 210 barrier was a significant one in my mind. Now, I'm aiming ---- slowly ---- at 190. I have to admit this has been pretty easy as diets go. Just eliminating so much sugar from my diet has been the key, I would say. I had become quite the sweet and junk-food junkie.
