Oy, vey. Here we go again. I believe in the eternal security of the believer. I believe it is biblical, and that's where I derive my belief. But, I don't want anyone else on the planet to believe as I do. I hope you believe as you are taught from reading the Bible, and from God's many, many ways of teaching it to you through experience with Him. The point I would make here is I don't think it matters whether you "believe in" eternal security. I think it only matters whether you "believe in" Jesus Christ. There will be plenty of "OSAS" as you like to call them in the life to come, and there will be plenty of those who aren't "OSAS". One thing is certain: all of them will be "S". If someone has a particularly rough time in his or her life in being transformed by Christ, I won't then care whether they were, during all those rough times, "S" or "not S".
As I see it, the people who would lean upon "OSAS" as license to sin were never, ever, ever His. They haven't endured, haven't persevered, and unless they are transformed by Him, will live to hear Him say, "I NEVER knew you." And, if they were His and now aren't from a point of view shared by most here, what of it?? How does that impact our duty to that person? It is only a point for debate and not really one for action. It is academic, isn't it? God is way more knowledgeable about the relationship of His sovereignty and knowledge and calling and election, etc., than I am. I onlly can go by what His word says, just as you. We are both created and shaped by Him. If He shapes us to understand a point of doctrine in ways that are somewhat opposed to one another, then either (1) the doctrine is not all that important and/or (2) He is using our opposition for some greater purpose that He didn't send us a memo about and probably won't. I can live in just happy, happy joy, joy hardy-har-har full fellowship with someone who has a 180 degree different view on "eternal security"/"OSAS" than I do. And, you should be able to as well because as long as both of you are, indeed, "S", you're on the same team.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).
