Bush warns Iran on Israel
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/03/2 ... 9dcoq.html
US President George W. Bush said he hoped to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran with diplomacy, but warned Tehran he would "use military might" if necessary to defend Israel.
"The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace," the US president said after a speech defending the war in Iraq.
"I made it clear, and I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel," said Bush, who was apparently referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel.

Pretty Clear, eh?

The moment our nation withdraws support from Israel is the moment we will start to see the same fate as all other nations who have come against them in the past.

Unfortunately, we have already been withdrawing our support from Israel. We support the enemies of Israel and treat them as if they are legitimate, ie. the so-called pa terrorists. We planned, and forced the implementation of the horrid Gaza debacle. We encouage and support the division of Jerusalem.
We seemingly turn a blind eye to the murderous bombers, and condemn Israel when they seek out those who killed their citizens. We stop Israel from building a security fence around their country, while planning to build our own.
We are trying to play both sides of the issues, and it will blow up in our faces.

The choice is up to us. Do we want blessings or cursings.
And there ain't no inbetween..When you walk a fence line for so long... you will fall in one direction or the other.

Sometimes I wonder if we confuse national Israel and Spiritual Israel, though I voted yes.
I see many of the scriptural references to Israel as applying to believers not national Israel.

I'd personally like to see this raised in the doctrinal forum because I have similar questions. Those who have a Biblical explanation of Israeli support either way, I'd appreciate the insight. I am ill-informed to make a judgment. Admittedly, I've always just sided with the "orthodox" view of Israeli nationalism and the Christian's responsiblity to be on their side. Unfortunately, all those that I've heard raise arguments against it have been labeled anti-semitic. I could tune into John Hagee

, but I'd rather hear what those on this board have to say about it.

defend or more accurately, help themselves defend - yes
"at all cost" - nope, can't agree there.

I believe we should defend them at any cost. But, from what I was taught about the last days, I don't believe we will. Before the return of Christ, Israel will be isolated, without one freind left in the world, and that includes the good ol' US of A. I don't know if we'll be wiped out or just be unfaithful to Israel, but we won't be standing with them when the Lord returns, or so the teachers I heard when I was a young Christian used to say.

I am not so sure that modern day Israel is the same Israel in the Old Testament. It seems to me that Zionism is a European movement and I do not know if these men who started this movement were doing God's will or not. Some of the early leaders of Israel were socialist and wanted to start their own socialistic utopia in Palenstine. The first Prime Minister of Israel was a socialist, David Ben-Gurion. Not saying socialism is evil, but it seems more movement based on an idealogy rather than wanting to fulfill God's will. Could they have unknownly been doing God's will? Maybe?
I was surprised to learn that during the early part of the State of Israel, there was no real support from the US, Israel's biggest supporter was France. It was not until the late 1960's after the Soviet Union became active in the Middle East did the US form an alliance with Israel, but this was from the idea of stopping the spread of Communism than wanting to help Israel.
Also there are very radical movements in Israel that want to over throw the current government because it is not religious enough and start an all out war on all Arabs and take over as much land as possible. Luckily the government has done a good job at suppressing these movements.
I would not mind seeing more discussion on if today's Israel is the same Israel of the Bible or are they different.
In regards to the question, I think we should support Israel because they are our ally and with the exception of Turkey one of the only full democratic governments in the region. But not at all costs.
