Why do I get the feeling this should have a tagline:
It's a Southern thing, you would'nt understand.

southern thing? I thought it was a "guy thing". I haven't done this recently, but have on numerous occasions in my youth.
Also, I normaly don't go to myspace or link there, so I am not responsible for content outside and around the video I am going to link, but it is an example of junebug flying. I personally would have used a bit finer thread, but hay, whatever you have that works.

I do declare, kind Sir, it is but the lady in me that refrains from calling' you a sexist pig.
Ladies can fly June bugs quite well, I assure you.
Shellie curtseys, pops open parasol, gathers skirts and turns away.

They were one of my favorite toys as a kid.
I hated it tho when they would lite and crawl on you.. their legs were scratchy when they would crawl up u.
Bless their little hearts sometimes their legs would break loose from their body.

I picked No Clue,
I wasnt sure what a June Bug is, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and guess what...?
There was a real aircraft called a June Bug back in 1908
Then I found the link that referred it to a beetle. We have beetles here, but I have never flown one.

I'm waiting for next summer when my little gal will be patient enough to tie one up and fly it.

I was just talking about this the other day! I told my kids about it. I never see June Bugs anymore... the shiny emerald green ones.

My Daddy always put them on the string. It gimme the heebie jeebies to touch them. EEK!!! We liked flying 2 at a time to get them tangled up and watch them bang off of each other. LOL!!!!
Good memories.

Maybe they all flew off to a place that is not so sadistic.

One of the pleasures of being a child, yes, flew many a June bug and enjoyed every minute of it.

After looking in here again, I had aboslutely no idea that people would tie a string to an insect and fly it. but then, we don't have any insects big enough to do that with.

I loved flying June Bugs. Mom would give me some thread and Daddy would help me hold the bug while we tied the thread on its back leg. If you tied the thread to tight, the leg would come off and we would have to catch another one. Life was so simple back then.
