This is not a democracy...

We have a benevolent dictator. However, I would like to make a formal expression of preference that all post counts be removed. (not that it makes any difference, but hay it might be nice to see what others think).

Why would it matter? I think it's interesting to see the most frequent posters.

It gives us a chance to be silly in a world that is crazy

Rambo, I would be interested to know why you would prefer the counts to be removed.

I like the post counts NOW...

I have to admit they were a bit intimidating when I first started out. I choose to remain a lurker not wanting to throw in an opinion about something when others in the thread had 3 million posts more than I did...

However, after reading a bit, I realized that having 3 posts or 3000 posts doesn't change the fact that opinions are like certain body parts... Ah, you know the rest...

we can be silly, and have fun without them
they spawn useless posts
and unnecessary divisions among the posters
they are not representative of any useful information

without them, there is more equalization among posters
without them, (at least on the forums I admin/mod) there are far fewer repeated and useless posts
without them, (again, in my experience) there is less divisions and more unity (at least as far as postings are concerned)
without them, people don't get blamed/accused of posting just to increase post counts.

You make good points...

I wonder if categories might be more appropriate... As in "less than 1000" or "more than 3000"...

And then we could always click on someone's individual profile to see exactly how many posts they have...

I guess

This is one of those wayward thoughts that serve to help us get a grip. 8)

Don't worry Rambo we've all had them.

Rambo, this is like the second or third time you've kinda set yourself up as the "Post Police" and there's a lot of irony there. :D I just don't see it being the issue you say it is. What division? We are only divided by opinions here, really. Useless posts? That's pretty subjective.

I agree, but I don't know if I would term them useless

If it is so subjective, then why do we even need moderates to begin with? 8)

I can think of one thing more important, and more annoying, than post counts...

I wish we could have an on-line tutorial to teach some individuals how to quote someone without posting these massive embedded quotes or quoting a mile-long post just to say, "I agree!"

WOW! I feel so much better. Had to get that one off my chest! Thanks for listening!

Sorry for the momentary hijack!

Whether the post counts show or not, most can tell who the frequent posters. I don't really see a correlation between showing the post totals and useless posts.
