I remember the way I felt when New Coke was announced. Could it be? A better coke? It was too much to ask for.

...and then, I tasted it. I was shocked...stricken with grief...fully traumatized. I had expected so much only to have my dreams dashed and my hope demolished.

Within a short time, the Coca-cola bottling company pulled the product, but still the damage was done.

Yes, I am bitter and they owe me. I still have nightmares for what they did to me and my relatives.

Yes, and they should have to pay for me for my pain and suffering. I still am attending counseling sessions for PTNCS (post traumatic New Coke syndrome). Every time I see someone order a coke I get flashbacks of that taste

New Coke was one of the biggest travesties ever visited upon mankind. Not only should they apologize, they should also pay us reparations.

That's what I was thinking!!

I remember a professor of mine talking about the New Coke. (He also said it was horrible!) He said when they changed it back to the old Coke and called it, "Coca-Cola Classic" the sales went way up! He thought it was a great marketing move to call it "Classic." I guess it was, they still call it that!

Coke Zero?? that is pretty recent.

I have blocked from my memory "New Coke" it was pathetic.

I think it came out sometime around 1985 or so. It tasted like Pepsi (blecch!). I had a cousin who drank a 12 pack of Coke a day, and he went out and picketed Coke headquarters when they changed the formula.

I think it had to have been a publicity stunt. No one could be so stupid as to think messing with the Coke formula would be a good idea.

From the articles I have read, including one on the executive who came up with the idea (he was fired, BTW) it was a deadly serious attempt to deal with Pepsi's successful marketing campaigns portraying coke as an old person's drink and Pepsi as the choice of a new generation.

However, it has gone down as one of the biggest failures in business and marketing history.

I drink RC so it didn't affect me or my ancestors nor is it going to affect my descendants. I got over it.
