Has anyone heard of
Peter Popoff?
I heard this on the local news last night. I have never heard of him before, but was floored by the amount of money this guy is raking in
The only insight into Popoff's organization comes from IRS documents. In 2003, people donated $9.6 million to Popoff's organization.
Nearly a million of that, $909,133 went to salaries paid to him, his wife and children. By 2005, donations soared to more than $23 million. And so did the salaries of Popoff and his family, jumping to $3,137,929.
I cant believe so many people would contribute so much money to a modern day snake oil salesman. I guess PT Barnum was too far off in his sucker born theory.

There have been on air exposes of him wearing an earpiece and intercepted coaching of him on "words of knowledge" and all that. He's a crook's crook, and evidently is making lots of money at it, not only from the show you saw, but by his very continued presence on TV. I think about ol' Larry Lea and all that controversy and, whatever else he is or was -- or not, for that matter -- he had some personality at least. But, he's disappeared from public view for more than a decade now, or about that, and Popoff keeps ... well, popping off. He has about the least sophisticated pitch of any of these guys out there, but probably makes more per minute than any of them if those figures are accurate.
I invite you to go to
www.ministrywatch.com , to get some insight on the financials of almost all major ministries in the US, reputable, disreputable, solid and shaky alike.

Popoff has been around for years. He has been to prison for his financial deals. He is one of the most obnoxious people on the planet...yet there are so many ignorant people who want to believe all this junk, that they will send their partner dollars to guys like him.....This is the one place I totally agree with dajudge. While, I don't think we should judge without benefit of knowledge of the facts, I do think we can call a proven snake what he is.
Popoff has been caught so many times doing things that were deceitful, that he is a joke to all but those who WANT to be decieved. There are millions of those people. If you don't believe that, look at how popular the lottery is. Everyone WANTS to believe they actually have a chance.....Tennessee's motto is " Just Imagine".

Yes, I for one have heard of him and put him on the same par with another ministry being discussed this week.
And dolfin"s link is right on. Can you imagine some of these begging someone to send them $20.00 so they can feed 3 or 4 mouths in Sudan for a few days?
Did you ever think about where we would be today if Hitler hadn't been exposed? A lot of us wouldn't be here simply because we don't have blonde hair. (and he was a religious man).
I"ve been around awhile and I have seen them come and I have seen them go, but I have seen more of them stay around through their cunning craftiness whereby they lie in wait to deceive, EPH. 4:14

I have no problems sending $20 to feed children in Sudan. Be careful not to lump everyone who works, and supports, and is active in various endeavors in the same catagory.
Nor do I have any problem asking for the $20 to feed the children in Sudan and other parts of the world.

I am in total agreement with you. My reference was to those with the million dollar mansions they bought with the money their supporters scraped up from back breaking work and sent them. Many times being deceived into believing it was seed money that would multiply because they were sowing into God's kingdom. I know of some who lost everything believing these empty promises

Soulsearcher, one thing I've noticed about you is that you find very little humor in anything. Sad.

Again, an observation without fact. You have no idea how humorous I can be - when something strikes me as humorous.

What I find so sad, is that so many believers??, stand with rocks in hand...waiting, waiting, waiting. My question is have you spent as much time in prayer for those you critize as you have casting your stones at them. If so, I applaude you, if not...how sad.

Believe me, I'd love to cast a stone right between Peter Popoff's eyes. If you can't acknowledge that at least HE is a crook (forget about Benny Hinn and Richard Roberts), then I'm going to pay for you to go to an "Overcoming Gullibility" class.
