The Blue Angels are rehearsing for an air show this weekend and are doing patterns right over our church/home today. Amazing.

My little video camera is in use today offsite :( but I went up on the roof with my digital camera to try to grab short clips... and, of course, they shifted to running patterns over the bay... too far for decent video. I will try again if they go back up today, and when the vid cam is returned. They will be at it most of the day tomorrow I am sure.

Okay, you asked

Since you asked, I went back up on the roof when the next practice started and shot some shaky video of the Blue Angels. I have profound respect for the camera operators at ESPN who track fast moving balls... those jets were moving incredibly fast, and because they are so far ahead of the sound, the kinda sneak up on you when you are not ready to shoot! These are just a series of clips shot with my Canon PowerShot A640 digital camera, dumped into iMovie, so nothing fancy here.

That was really good PG. When my hubby was in the Navy, we saw them perform and they were awesome!

What is difficult to really capture is the SOUND. Right after they zoom past you, there's this unbelievably loud wall of roaring sound that washes over you... it has been shaking our house for days, and the raw power behind that sound makes the hairs on my arms stand up. It is one of those sounds that is a little terrifying and yet awe inspiring.

I know what you mean...I remember when watching them, they would pass over (so close) and then I could feel the sound coming. It's really so powerful! I could actually feel the ground shake a little from that powerful sound...like a rushing, mighty wind! AWESOME!!! Right now, where we live, the Ft. Campbell Army Base is not far from us. The Black Hawk helicopers (those really big ones) fly directly over our house when they are doing manovers. They are so loud our house shacks.

During the summer, we have Hydroplane races on the lake close to our church. The blue angels are an annual show and part of their flight pattern is right over the church. They really are incredible.

For a long time, I have envisioned a music video featuring the Blue Angels doing their aerobatics to a guitar instrumental song called "Flying In A Blue Dream" by Joe Satriani. I think it would be sooooo cool...

Actually, this Blue Angels video is more my speed:

Van Halen, Dreams

Gotta love Sammy Hagar.

We lived off Blue Angel Parkway in Pensacola about a mile from the Blue Angels' home base, so they would fly overhead all the time!

Also on Blue Angel Parkway at the Naval Air Museum there are planes on display and an IMAX film about the Blue Angels which is awesome!

Man after my own heart!

We had a flyover at the Bama-LSU game 2 years ago, Condi Rice was there with British FM Jack Straw, and it was dadgum near the awesomest (word??) thing I ever saw. The bottom of the 1st plane over (cargo plane, I think) said "Roll Tide". Very, very cool. We lost.

That was good, reminded me of watching them in Ft. Lauderdale, they fly out over the Everglades and then back east to the beachs. Would love the see more video if you get some. Talking about the sound, standing in the street in front of my house you can see and hear the shuttle lift off and you feel the ground rumble. Several of us in the neighborhood stand together and pray for a safe journey and return and we always hold our breath until the booster rockets fall back to earth. The only thing more awesome to me is to look down US 1 and see the shuttle on its way to the Cape to land, and a couple of minutes after it passes overhead we get the 2 sonic booms, everything rattles.
