seriously. using a backhoe at an important historical (not to mention "holy") location! this infuriates me. a BACKHOE digging a trench at the "temple mount"!!! I can't even hardly watch the video's without getting teary-eyed, still.
I am more than upset with this. Most may not understand it, but for me it is an extreme issue. I have been made fun of for not following sports, or knowing much about it, but at least I can understand the emotionalism and excitement that some have with it.
I am sorry that you don't get it, but it is a very important issue, none the less. in archaeology a backhoe is not a good thing. especially on a known "tell". digging trenches in/on an archaeological site stopped happening in the late 19th century or so. Archeology is not about "treasure" hunting (gold and large works of art, etc.). It's about the "real treasure", of discovery about past peoples.
archeology is a science. There have been NO archaeological discoveries that "disproves" God's Word. there are Biblical minimalists that interpret some things as being anti-Bible, but there are always plausible explanations from the Biblical maximist.
digging a huge trench (with a backhoe!) in the area that is considered the "traditional location" of the Temple (the "temple mount") that was destroyed only a generation after Christ was resurrected; is a HUGE problem.
yes, I really cried, this is truly a sad thing.

See... you should have put this with your first post. It would have helped us dummies understand.

I sincerely apologize. As with sports fanatics and analogies (here in text format, and from the pulpit), I incorrectly assumed that "everyone" understood the issue/context.

Archeologists overseeing contested Islamic infrastructure work on Jerusalem's Temple Mount have stumbled upon a sealed archeological level dating back to the First Temple period, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced Sunday.
...
But independent Israeli archaeologists from the nonpartisan Committee Against the Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount, who have repeatedly lambasted the Antiquities Authority for allowing Islamic officials to carry out the infrastructure work this summer, downplayed the findings.

yer welcome.
I may not agree with where the exact location of the Temple (either of them) was located (actually, I am one of the "heretics" that believe it was somewhere more southerly - rather than the "traditional" location), but the location is still significant nonetheless. and to use a backhoe on such a rich archaeological location in any case is anathema.
it is an emotional subject for me when there are groups of people that just don't care, especially when there is a potential of making discoveries that can potentially be disturbing to them "theologically". arghghg...
anyway, I try to just continue past this, but the archaeology is a pointing to the centrality of Judaeo-Christianity; and is disturbing enough for me personally, that I have nightmarish dreams about it.
