I've had a couple. I loved them, but be warned...they are barkers and they do hike their legs in the house even when they've been fixed and potty-trained. My friends male is the same way as the two I owned.

I don't know about females.

My sister had a female...It was mean, barked all of the time and didn't like anybody...I'd search for another breed but that's just my opinion.

dachshunds

I seem to be in the minority here. I breed mini dachshunds and have 3 adults that are all great. I have 3 new puppies that are 6 weeks old. They are black & tan and CKC registered. One is long haired and 2 are short haired. They are $250 each. Problem is I'm in SC. May be able to work something out because my daughter is at Lee and will be returning from Fall Break on Sunday.

Um Shellie, shouldn't you "Judge the Deed, not the Breed" on this one?

we have owned many breeds of dogs, including some good old fashioned mutts, and really the personality of the individual dog, and the way it's treated and handled seem to have a much greater impact on these things than the breed.

Um Bill, I wasn't judging the breed...I was telling her about the ones I had owned and been around. I said that I didn't know about the females.

So, I guess I was really judging males....Let's see, make a lot of noise and pee on everything? Yep, that would be males.

I currently have an obese female minature dachshund who is 15 year old. I had a male who died at 15 years and he was the best dog, had a lot of personality and was a clown. He loved babies and children and was very gentle with them. The female is a little more highstrung, but she was a rescue dog we got when she a year old, we are not sure of her treatment but it wasn't good. She also is a clown and she adores TW, when he comes down she ignores me except to feed her.

Dachshunds are a lot of fun but they are also stubborn but they can be trained, you just have to be consistent (just like kids). The only thing I would warn you about is they are small and can easily be hurt. We had to teach all the kids and grandkids to be gentle with them, they will snap at you if you hurt them. They love to play and they don't like to be left alone much, they are very social dogs.

Teach...Are you sure you want a new puppy and a new husband at the same time? You'll have two to train now!

It just as easy to train 2 as to train one, you just need a lot more rolled up newspaper

all the ones I have ever seen are hyper, nervous, ankle biters, and bark a lot. if you can get it to calm down for a minute, it might let you pet it. :)
