OK...I'm not real familiar with how it works but is there a way to download videos from YouTube or is that not possible?

I'm trying to find somewhere to download the Casting Crowns video 'Stained Gladd Masquerade"...Thanks for any help.

I dont believe it is possible, there are already enough potential copyright issues with videos and songs that are uploaded to YouTube, I dont think they would make it easily available to download

There are multiple ways, actually. Search for "Greasemonkey" on Google. It's an extension you can install to Firefox that lets you download FLV (Flash videos) to your hard drive.

Greasemonkey only works with older versions of firefox (or may possibly not work at all now). I tried it a few weeks ago to download something that wasn't covered by any copyright, but was unable to get it to work. Of course I could have also been doing something wrong.

Camtasia will grab it, and I believe there is a free version, it captures full screen or a smaller portion, and the audio. Not as clean as just downloading, but it works.

Not sure how to capture video off of Youtube, but imagine there is a program. Just a quick search and could not find any torrents of the video.

Yes, you can

Isn't it risky downloading copyrighted music/video? I seem to remember a kid who got hammered with financial lawsuits for downloading and sharing music?

Depends on how you download the music/video. It is easier to go after those who share copyright material. With programs like Kazaa, if you move those things you are sharing out of the folder you are sharing, and not run the programs much, you are fairly safe.

With torrents it is a little harder to "catch" someone, mostly because you are only sharing while you are downloading. If you clear the torrents once you have finished you are no longer sharing.

With Torrents they go after sites that host torrents. Check out this website they go after a lot, he has some of his responses to take some of the torrents down. The Pirate Bay

yes, risky, and potentially not ethical. One of the reasons I have chosen to not participate in the thread thus far. there are many justifications that people use for downloading music or videos they don't own, or use Internet they don't have permission to use. I now just leave that between them and God and will assume that anyone doing these things have proper licensing, and ownership for any and all medias and processes that are used. :)

I think this question about Youtube is a little different than filesharing. Youtube, the one publishing the clip is making it public, it is true they may not have the right to do that, but once it's there, it's pretty much public domain I think. Remember a good percentage of Youtube submissions are NOT copywrited.

If someone wanted to save one of Pastor Gary's YouTube posts, I don't believe he's copywrited them, and I don't believe he would discourage it in any way. this is true for much of what is on that type of site.

now music/movie downloads, are a whole different story, most that are sharing these are doing so dispite the copywrites, and are knowingly breaking the law, and as this has been well publicized I believe those downloading cannot claim ignorance on the matter either.
