...my blessing today is a memory. Playing music for God has taken me a lot of places, and I’ve met some great brothers and sisters in the Lord, many more good ones than otherwise. It has been pretty neat, all things taken into account. With time, the memories have grown perhaps a bit more nostalgic, but I think the substance is still mostly there.
I remember playing a community rally in our hometown on a stormy autumn evening. We were playing somewhat dramatic song about being a love slave to God called “Doulos”. Just as I ended the last line, “for you are my God, and I am your man”, an incredibly loud peal of thunder rolled out, rattling the rafters and windows in the auditorium and shocking everyone into momentary silence. The pastor we were working with that night got out of his seat, walked to the microphone, looked back at me and said “I’ve been in church for a long time, but I never heard anybody get an “amen” like that before!”
God has a great sense of humor, and I thank him for that.
