I had Photoshop Elements on my mac but it won't work for me anymore, and while I would LOVE to have Photoshop, I can't afford it right now. But I am in need of a photo editing program.
I heard about Gimp, a free program, on the radio this weekend and I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it before I take the plunge and download it anyway?

Yes, my son has used it quite a bit and I tinkered with it but I didn't have the patience. To me it seemed to be tedious to use, but he really enjoyed using it.

I have heard good things about it. It is free . It is one the more popular software products suggested by the guys over a Church Media Net.
I have loaded it and installed it. It looks like photoshop.
Which I find confusing.. LOL
Good ol wikepedia has this.

Seems to me i have seen some online tutorials somewhere . these two websites may point you in the direction.

Concerning PS.. do you have any kids/relatives in school? If so, grab the education discount at
http://www.academicsuperstore.com
I've worked in PS since version 1.0

Wow, that is a good discount Mac! I have a brother in college. I can't afford even that right now but when I can I'll be sure to order from there.
I think I'll give Gimp a whirl. Thanks for the links Billy.

First, try Seashore at
http://seashore.sourceforge.net/ Awesome Opensource editor
Second, take a look at Art Rage2 at
http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html not exactly a photoshop replacement, but a fun program to use. It has a Free starter version
Finally, Pixelmator at
http://www.pixelmator.com/ has a free trial that I "think" stays active in a reduced mode if you don't buy it.
I got these and more by listening to the MacReviewcast Podcast at
http://www.macreviewcast.com/
Edit, one more I just found
