Benny Hinn: A conversation with a Baptist Seminary Student

So Benny Hinn comes up in a conversation with a Baptist Seminary Student.

"He is Going Straight to hell!" The seminary student almost shouted, firmly strongly.

EVEN I was taken aback. I will criticise Hinns idiocy, but not the status of his soul.

"Why do you say that!?" I asked.

"He claims that people will be raised from the dead. A man whos son had just died packed the boys body on ice and took him to a Benny Hinn crusade. THEY WOULDNT EVEN LET HIM IN."

OTHER THAN ATTACKING THE SEMINARY STUDENT, How would you HINN DEFENDERS respond?

Gerald, I don't think it really happened.

Unless this seminary student is talking about something he has personal knowledge of, a search on the internet of something like "Benny Hinn Dead Child" or "Benny Hinn refuses father" doesn't come up with anything like that story.

(In my best Steven A. Smith Voice)

HOWEVUH!!!!

That story does sound suspiciously like an event that really occurred in Pensacola a few years ago. A man whose son died packed the boy in ice and drove him to Brownsville Assembly of God church during the daytime and the staff there prayed for some time that the boy would be raised from the dead.

(Pensacola News Journal, Sept. 20, 1998, pg. 1A.)

So was Brownsville able to deliver?

I do not know whether the story is true or not.

WHAT I DO know is true is the followng:

BH has claimed raising from the dead would take place.

BH HAS been known to exclude and bar people with obvious ailments from his crusades, here is a link to just one story:
http://www.religionnewsblog.com/13425/disabled-barred-from-hinn-stage

So at least two of the basics are there: the claim of raising from the dead, refusing those who have obvious ailments.

Someone once told me you were a Benny Hinn fan.

IF the story was true, how would that affect your defense of BH??

I do not know whether the story is true or not.

Then why are you spreading it?

And here I was going to thank you for a civil discourse.

I asked a question which entailed relating the story.
I asked How a person would handle it.

This is no more tale spreading than relating about a cussing preacher or whatever it was got your skivvies in a knot.

I then asked you a follow up question which you ignored and rejoined with an accusation.

I'll participate

Here's how I handle it Gerald. I do not even consider going to one of his "crusades" (personal fund-raisers) and when surfing through the channels and I see him on I just keep surfing. If he is on the evening news, which he has been a few times I watch for a good laugh since a merry heart doeth good like a medicine.

Gerald, there is the obvious difference isn't there? Mark Driscoll cusses when he preaches and anyone who wants to confirm that can do it in less than 2 minutes on the internet. In contrast to your "2 out of the three facts are proven" story.

All you are doing is showing a bias so set against a person that even when what happened didn't happen, you want to criticize him for it.

And as far as the other two facts:

The Bible says that raising the dead will take place. Jesus said you will do the same works I did.

And with the story you linked, you are leaving out a very important detail:

He said the officials who were present with the sick and disabled people only chose those that they saw were already healed and sent them up to the stage so that Benny Hinn could show the crowd.

They were not barred from entering the venue, they were not allowed to go up on stage.

Sam,
As a person that is just following this thread I have made the following observations:

Gerald, who by his own admission, has a bias against Benny Hinn related an occurrence, and asked how you (the reader) would handle it.

Your response did not answer his question, it only cast doubt upon the validity of the story that the student told Gerald.

At the conclusion of Gerald's response to your post he again posed the question ( word slightly different, but the same question)
IF the story was true, how would that affect your defense of BH??

Can you not respond to a simple question directly? What would you have said to this student? Leave Gerald out of this, respond to the statement of the student.

Here's the question that I want to ask of Sam.

Sam, are you a fan of Benny Hinn?

TW- Since it is very unlikely that the story happened, as far as I am concerned. the question is moot. Beyond that, I have answered the question EXACTLY as I would if Gerald's friend was standing right in front of me.

I ask again Sam, are you a fan of Benny Hinn?

Why are you comfortable with the fact that Benny Hinn wouldnt allow blind people on the stage so he could pray for them?

Do you believe being in his prescence is enough for a person to be healed?

And again I ask:

What would be your reaction if such a story was true?
