Chick Tracks

Anyone remember them? When I was a young Christian, I used to enjoy reading these little comic-book style tracks on a variety of subjects. They had pretty strong messages and were highly opinionated at times, too, focusing on the occult, catholics and even Christian rock in one track. I felt like the guy had good intentions of evangelism but at times would get mired in conspiracy theories, etc. Did anyone else read them?

Did you read Chick's comic book series, "The Crusaders"?

I remember as a kid being mesmerized by them. I still think about them from time to time - your post about Chick brought the memories back.

Kewl. Thanks.

My mom saved all mine. Those things freaked me out. I remember being about 9-10 and looking thru one at a family friends house. There was a story that involved a homeless person munching on a human finger. That freaked me out for the longest time.

Take a look at the covers and let the memories roll!

The Exorcist one also freaked me out as a kid! But I have to admit it helped shape my faith to a certain degree. I remember the Crusaders had to fast and pray to prepare themselves to encounter the demonic presence in the boy. That focus on preparation has alsways stuck with me.

I loved them, but as a kiddo there were certain ones that I wasn't allowed to read (like Paully's example!).

I looked up his site recently looking for his Halloween tracts. From what I remember, he was usually pretty dead on in his facts about things, but the way that he did it kinda made you go, "Are you serious?" . But at least it got the info out there and inspired research it yourself if you didn't quite buy it (his tracts on Catholicism especially were hard to swallow, for me).

I remember reading somewhere that he is an UTLRA conservative, KJV only (all other translations are evil) kind of guy.

I've read some things he has written attacking other translations and people that read them, and it really struck me as being very hateful and judgemental.

However, considering the fact that I was raised in the ultra conservative, KJV atmosphere, his tracts had a big part in my youth.

I haven't read what you're talking about, but I agree. Even if what you are saying is the truth, don't be hateful about it. I'm KJV only but I don't think ill of those who read other versions, I only think ill of the versions themselves. :)

I liked them. If the preacher's sermon was boring you could always read the chick tracts! LOL!

The comic books really freaked me out. Usually they were more graphic than the little tracks.

The few that got me was the comic book's about Alberto Rivera and what he, as an ex-Jesuit priest, claimed was the catholic church's responsibility in the formation of Islam. I'm looking at their website now and looks like you can read those for free. Even more interesting is they came out way before 9/11. I'd love to discuss the topic with any of you that read it.

I think I still have some of them stored away. Now you've peaked my interest and I will have to go through storage boxes. And weren't there some "Christian" comic books that were put out about the same time?

I remember one track about rock music where a band started out as Christian rock and then a Satanic record producer forced them into secular music where they all (except one who repented) experienced slow and painful deaths.
