so many walls and "ancient ruins", I would love to return for an "archaeological tour" (boring for most of you).

okay - so it may not be interesting to most. but it is actualy incredibly fascinating to me, at least. I was actually at many of the locations mentioned in the Bible and as I teach/preach about them, I know that my minds eye will recall these locations and bring the vividness to me, as I try to express those feelings and information.

I know that we all know that the Bible is true. but there are many things that my imagination/minds eye saw them differently than what I experienced. I realize that a couple millenia has elapsed, adn that the exact terrain isn't the same, but the general details are. and when I see Mt. Moria, I will no longer see it as some huge mountain in the middle of nowhere, but more of a hill, or high-place that was accessible.

My mother-in-law just found out she is going to get to go to Isreal next April with her brothers Church. she is totally excited and a bit nervous as well.

I think it would be a chance of a lifetime.

if she does, Suggestion: get a good digital camera, that has eitehr standard batteries that can be replaced easily, or be sure to have at least two spare proprietary battery, and verify that your charger works in israel (with the transformer adaptor). AND take enough biggest availabel memory cards for the entire trip.

Depending on how they are toured. most are like what we went through and you get to "run where Jesus walked". schedules are very tight and there may not be time for downloading (which also means taking a laptop). and recharging (if you go that way), can happen over night.

I do not suggest taking video in lieu of pictures. As mentioned, everyone will probably be in a "rush" most of the time, and video's get jumpy and not really very viewable when rushed. any video's that can be had can be video clips from a good digital camera.

It has been my experience that a video'd trip may get reviewed once or twice, but pictures are viewed and available to share much more easily and more quickly. (I am still working on the video for our trip, not sure if I will ever get done).

(PS, I also suggest a good digital voice recorder to capture all teh tourguide info.)

and finally - I was REALLY happy with the results of my GPS fob, and matching that info to the pictures. this may be a bit geeky, and overkill, but it does add to teh experience afterwards.

This would be totally awesome to see History unearthed.

I'd loved to of been there in Italy when that city was unearthed from the volcano that Mt. Lasuvous (sp) covered.
They say they found people just as they were when they dug them out. Sitting on walkways, laying in bed. Etc..

She just bought a new Cannon digital camera and 2- 2GB cards so hopefully that will be enough. rather than having to worry about battery charging, I think she'll take a brick or 2 of the costco batteries.

good tips.

Be careful of cheap batteries, some cameras won't work at all with them, and others will run them down so fast they are useless.

totally agree there. I stay with Duracell or Energizer only. (sorry for the hijack)

RamboPreacher;

Seeing the picture of the site of Nehemiah's wall reminded me of something I saw in Germany while in the army. Made a tour of an area where there was a huge outdoor coliseum (I think that is what it was called) were crowds would gather to watch people being fed to lions. It was a large circular area with seating for hundreds of people sloping down towards a flat area with cave openings where the lions were kept. Probably dated to Biblical times.

I envisioned an area like this that Daniel was put into and the crowd of people gathered to watch as the lions refused to harm him.

I filled 5, 4 gig memory sticks. unless she takes the pictures at a lower resolution, 2, 2GB cards will probably not be enough, unless she only takes a few pictures. I didn't want to feel like I needed to "save" any or "hold back" because I would have run out of space.

I am not saying she needs to have 20 gig of space, but you might want to check the camera and how many pictures it will take on a 2 gig card. and my personal opinion is that for a trip like that, you don't want to scrimp by taking lower resolution pictures. I haven't worked out what I want to print yet, but I could make a poster size print of most of them.

mi dos centavos.

awesome a coliseum sounds great. the things we correlate and image as we see these things brings a certain reality to when we are remembering and reading the Bible.
