ok, one of the main reasons...

I had to brake up with zak involved an issue in his beliefs which made me question a lot is this:

One night we were discussing other religions and he said something to the fact that he didn't believe we should discriminate other religions.

so I ask him what he meant.

He said that he believed that as long as you believe in some type of higher power than that was ok with him. It didn't matter if they didn't believe in Jesus Christ. They would just end up where ever their religion taught they would end up.

I know within myself that this is completely wrong and I confronted him with the inconsistency of his belief system. If you believe in Jesus Christ and what he teaches how can you also believe that it does not matter what religion you practice. He didn't have an answer really so basically he just kept saying the same thing no matter how many scriptures I gave him proving otherwise.

He then attempted to use some particular passage in the old testament that he thought would prove what he was saying and all that did was prove my point more.

anyway, I decided that it was in both of our best interest to part ways so he could find the truth one day. I intend to continue a friendship with him so that I can help him find the truth, but for now I am laying low so that he can work on his pain.

ok, so for those who wanted to know about the "wacky beliefs" I was talking about, here they are!

Yes, I teach my kids to believe in Jesus above anything else, Church, family or friends. He is our only hope and our only salvation. I've attempt to embed and drill that if anything popular arises in our modern or future world that removes Jesus from the salvation position is wrong and to run from it.

You did some hard ministry really fast. But you might have just saved him actually in the long run. God has his hand on Zak..directing him.. and I pray he continues to do so... in all his future endeavors.

I think you made a wise choice to not get married. as for breaking up and all the ramifications, prayer continues.

Sounds to me like he may just be very shallow in his faith. believing in Christ for himself, but believing what the world is feeding him as well. You are right to put a stop to things, you want a solid man of God, and that's just not where he is right now. You never know, this may make him really study it out, and down the road you two may reconnect, but that's all in God's hands, and you should be glad that you had the maturity to recognize it and deal with it now rather than after you were married.

I believe you made a wise choice as well. So many people are deceived by universalism (the belief that all ways lead to God).

Some differences you can work through in a marriage. I don't think religious differences are that easy though. I think you were wise in taking a step back.

If believing in some other religion gets you where they say you'll be, what's to keep a person from changing their profession of faith to one of those other faiths at some point? If it's all good, then why not?
Same old universalist stuff that's been around forever, one mountain with many roads to the top, yadda yadda. You did the right thing. He needs to have those ducks in a row before any serious Christian woman should even consider him for dating. Thank God you found out now instead of later.

thanks guys... I really appreciate you input.

I am doing fine, really great in fact because I no longer have that burden on my chest of wondering I am making the biggest mistake of my life.

continue praying for zak and his family. They need to see the truth of the gospel.

Good for you, Wendy!

I know you made the right decision and it's great that you're keeping him in your prayers and will be a friend as well.
