It is being reported here that Evel Knievel has died today.

I emailed him yesterday after I heard about his conversion to Christianity.

Sorry Rambo, just deleted it. Scooter's seemed a bit more informative than mine.

Response: You didn't have to do that. I'm just glad he got saved.

I remember seeing his movie when I was a kid! He was like a real-life superhero.

The only time I ever attempted to do a stunt like him, I tried to jump a creek with my bike. When I left the side of the creek, my bike dropped from underneath me and I went flying, landing square on my head on the other bank. I know - that explains everything.

Do you have a link for his conversion? Drudge didn't include that information.

I liked Evel very much as a child. I had all the toys associated with him and I still have a Knievel lunch box.

Wow.. yes I had all the toys also. I especially remember the wind up toy of him on his bike.. that thing would blast off! Many hours of fun as a kid.

Concerning lunch boxes.. I had them all... same they are destroyed or given away.

pastorables, he gave his testimony on Robert Schuller's tv program several months back.

I don't generally watch, but my dad does occasionally. He was very moved by the program and emailed me the transcript.

EVEL was my childhood hero. I had all of his toys. I had posters of him. My brother, Doug, put a pair of motorcycle handlebars on my bike so I could be like him and jump anything I could find. One of the few "whoopins" I got was when I smash a perfectly good garbage can when I was trying to jump it. I made the jump many times. But that last time, the plywood came off of the milk crate I had it propped up on. The bike crushed the can and I went flying through the air like Superman and had a "great" crash...just like Evel at Caesar's Palace. As much as I hurt, I loved it. I would simulate crashes. I would jump off my bike right before it hit the fence.
I wish we had "heroes" like him today. His son, Robbie, is great at what he does. But it was Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel that was the original King of the Showmen.
