They're both politically active megachurches.

To make the situation even more surreal, just one year ago New Life was dealing with scandals surrounding their (then) pastor, Ted Haggard. Still in the healing process, the church must now deal with such a horrific tragedy during the Christmas season.

YWAM is Youth With A Mission. I don't believe they are a megachurch just a ministry. I could be wrong.

Not to drop names, but I met and had several conversations with the young guy who was pressed into leadership when Haggard fell at New Life -- Rob Brendle. He served as interim pastoral team leader after the Haggard scandal and held that church together during the transition to the new permanent leader. I feel very bad for Rob, today. He is a wonderful, humble, Godly man.

It's the first time I ever heard of a church with armed guards. Was that because of the Hagard scandal?

KBevangelist, yes, they are a mission ministry. But this shooting happened on the campus of Faith Bible Chapel where YWAM is hosted in a dormitory. It didn't sound like the shooter knew who YWAM is though, so, never mind. Anyway, it seems that the shooter in both incidences might have been the same dude. And he's no longer with us. I still find it interesting that it happened at the two largest and newsmakingest megachurches in the area.
Why??

Why is no-one calling this a "Hate Crime"? If this had been at a synagogue or a muslim temple there would be major outrage!

A lot of megachurches have security guards. Nut cases seek out large gatherings of Christians to mess with. News reports indicate that this intruder was shot by a female church security guard who used her own personal weapon. Some states still understand the need for an armed citizenry, and thank God for them.

The article says that he was kicked out of the program, it sounded to me like it was a YWAM program?

Yup, it's a YWAM program. There's a rustic wooden sign that says Youth With a Mission in front of the place. It's on the campus of Faith Bible Chapel at 64th and Ward Road in Arvada Colorado. It's about a 300 yard walk across the parking lot to get from one to the other. I just drove past it today. It was still a crime scene.
We've gained considerable information since my earlier speculations that it was an attack on militant megachurches. I'm not a fan of YWAM or Faith Bible Chapel. I've considered YWAM an authoritarian cult for a long time. Faith Bible Chapel, from what I understand, sponsors a training center. But because I'm not a fan doesn't mean I want to see them get shot up either. Whatever the guy's motive was for going off like that wasn't a good enough excuse. But I can't shake the feeling that there's something badly wrong with Christian ministry that elicits a result like this from someone that has grown up and been home schooled in it. There's something profoundly immature about their Christianity for them to lack discernment in this situation. Either that or they were too busy cookie cutting Christians to notice something had gone badly wrong. Mass production can work that way sometimes.
