It's my first "Winter Storm" watch in Orlando Florida. Television networks have been beeping during programs to make sure people know to cover up in the cold. What's next? Documentaries on opening an umbrella when it rains? It's supposed to get as cold as (brace yourselves) - 35 degrees!!

DeWayne,
"Down South" here in Kissimmee we're forcast to hit 28 degrees. Also, flurries are predicted near the coast. We haven't seen temps this low in over 5 years, so to us it's a "biggie."

Mine's pumping away as I type this.
I know what REAL winter is - as Chicago winters. Lived there for 6 years. When I moved to Tennessee, it was hysterical to me that they closed schools and businesses at the first sign of a snowflake, but after living there 20 years I understood why. They just weren't equipped to handle snow and ice. Same goes for Orlando. When it hits 40 degrees, everyone pulls on the coats, hats, and gloves.

So far the temps here have dropped 50 degrees in 24 hours, but have no fear, we'll be back up into the mid-70's by Sunday.

I, on the other hand, took my bike to the gym at 3:00 am because it's the first time in three weeks the temperature was above freezing. There's still snow and ice on the streets here in Denver. But 45ยบ feels really warm.

As a native of South Florida this is cold. I am looking out my window across the Indian River here in Melbourne watching the rain clouds, the forecasters are saying that if it starts to rain we might get some flurries. I'm watching real close because if this happens it will be the first time for me to see "snow". This is way to cold and by the way most homes built after 1980 all over Florida have not only air conditioning but reverse cycle heat, my has been on since yesterday afternoon.

Al Gore.. that was funny.

He invented the internet, you know!
I think the cold in Florida is actually worse because of the dampness..also because your body gets acclimated to higher temperatures! We went to Disney a coupla times in winter and had to come home when it got dark because it was just too darn cold! (Then, there was the winter we went to Sea World when we got soaked by Shamu.

Our daughter's idea to sit there and, since it was her birthday..

Jennifer, you hit the nail on the head regarding "Florida cold." It
IS different. The dampness and the breezes chill the bones at 40 degrees. And the Shamu soak in winter - been there and done that, too! Burrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I love celebrating birthdays as much as the next person but sitting in the soak section during the winter would seriously test the limits of my generosity.

Well Florida did get a light flurry Thursday. My daughter lives in Edgewater which is just south of Daytona Beach. She called me last night to tell me that while she was getting gas yesterday morning these little white flakes came floating down. She knows what snow is, she has been in North Carolina in the winter. I am the only member of my family who has never seen snow. While it was windy and cold here in Melbourne yesterday and very overcast, we didn't get any flurries. Today it is a little warmer but it has been raining on and off this afternoon and the wind is still up. I'm looking forward to the 72 it is supposed to be tomorrow and hope the sun is out.
