BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. - Authorities searched Wednesday for the bodies of four children believed to have been thrown off a bridge by their father.
Lam Luong, 37, of Irvington confessed Tuesday night to driving to the Dauphin Island bridge, stopping and tossing the youngsters off the span, which is as high as 80 feet above the water in places, Detective Scott Riva said. Luong faced charges of four counts of capital murder and was due in court Wednesday, Riva said.

Missing and presumed dead were 4-month-old Danny Luong; 1-year-old Lindsey Luong; 2-year-old Hannah Luong; and 3-year-old Ryan Phan. Phan is not the man's biological child, but Luong raised him from infancy, authorities said.

At least three boats were being used in the search, and the Coast Guard was sending another boat and a helicopter, Riva said.

"It's been a nightmare," said Riva.

Luong is jailed in Mobile, and Riva said he did not know whether he had a lawyer. There was no telephone listing for Luong.

Police Chief John Joyner said the act appeared to be an act of revenge aimed at Luoung's wife, the Press-Register of Mobile reported. Police said Luong reported the children missing Monday. He reportedly told authorities that a woman who had the children failed to return them to him.

The Dauphin Island bridge connects coastal Alabama to a barrier island located about three miles south of Mobile Bay in the Gulf of Mexico.

Just saw this man on TV...Is it wrong to hope that someone does harm to him in jail?

The only positive point is that they were all thus spared having to spend their whole lives with this creep as their father. That surely would have been hell on earth and a miserable existence. This way they went straight to paradise to be with Jesus and don't have to grow up with a jerk like thaty as their "dad".

Was driving to Georgia today when I heard this on the radio. Pounded the steering wheel in sheer anger, wishing I had time alone with this guy with no consequences. Even still, those poor kids and the way they died, the brutality, and just the finality of their death ... no amount of revenge can bring them back or make it right. I still wish I had 10 minutes alone with him.

Do ya think?

Do you think there should be an extra hot place in South Hell for people who take the innocent lives of babis?

Yeah, and I'd like to be in charge of the thermostat from a comfortable distance.

Give me some time alone with him, and he will be looking forward to hell, and the relief that it would bring!

In cases of acts against children, "do unto others"

I go back to what Jesus said about the millstone and the little ones. Seems to me it is the one time He specifically said, "If you do "X", then you are going to be punished this way"....

Think of it literally...

It would be better you hung a millstone about your neck and cast yourself into the bottom of the sea...

Think of Samson pushing a millstone...

That type of weight around your neck would bring you down to the bottom of the sea without being cast in...

The above scripture says to me, there is little hope for you if you offend/harm one of these little ones...

Hell will be full of sickos that hurt defenseless trusting little children...

There are people who emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually offend their children daily and are usually self deceived about it...Thank God, Jesus is looking out for their welfare and there will come an end to the abuse...

The helplessness of a child and having no way of defending themselves against abuse breaks my heart...I am glad they have the ultimate defense team, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost...Justice will be served...

I didn't post on this yesterday, because it literally made me sick to my stomach and caused great anger to swell up. Each time it has come to my memory since I first read this, the tears well up. I think of how a simple skinned knee on one of my little ones made me feel and again I fight the sheer anger that consumes me.

I don't like the thoughts that this type of thing raises up in me. I know what I would do to him if given the chance.

I don't mean to turn this into a political thing, but how can any person argue against the death penalty?

When you put the faces on these babies it's even harder to hold the tears.

And so will heaven. That is the part of Grace that totally escapes my understanding.
