Supreme Court rejects death penalty for raping children

Postby A2JGirl » June 25th, 2008, 5:32 am

"The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion.

I think that we'd avoid a lot of crimes if the punishment if they were caught was steeper. ESPECIALLY those involving children.

if the crime is commited against a defenseless child I would lean towards it.
Let the wild rumpus start!

What exactly would be "an eye for an eye" in the case of a rape of a child? I don't think anything would even come close.

I will admit that actually executing makes me squeamish. But I like the prevention aspect. If they know the penalty is death, then isn't that what they would be choosing for themselves?

I think the punishment for killing a convicted child rapist should be $10 and 100 hours of community service.

Most people that are raped are defenseless.

That's a bit harsh of a sentence, don't you think?

I think for the family should get a free pass on ANY first offense.

See how easily I'm persuaded? Okay, first time offenders get $5 fine and 1 hour of community service. Habitual offenders (3rd strikers) get $10/100 hrs.

I'd agree to an "eye for an eye" mentality....nip, snip, and tuck that guy and make him sit down to pee....that'll give him time to think about harming children again...

But what about the women who rape....they gonna get theirs sewwed up?

Supreme Court decision for raping a child

Postby Dr. Ron » June 25th, 2008, 11:51 am

WHOA!!!! Pastor Daniel........lol

I agree with that somewhat though......I just think that "execution" should be a very "humane" thing......like for these people it should be something like being hung with barbed wire.....by the feet until the blood runs from the eyeballs........that have been eaten away by rats.......

Raping a child is the most hideous thing I can imagine........and I do have grandkids........and some barbed wire and I know some rats.....personally.

Man gets life for attempting to rape 94-year-old neighbor
The woman, now 96, was in court to see that her attacker, 44-year-old Joseph West, was deprived of his freedom.

Joseph West, 44, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Wilford Taylor Jr. to a life term in prison plus 31 years which will be suspended for 56 years.

I don't understand that sentencing; are the 31 years what is being suspended for 56 years?

Pastor Daniel,
Turning a rapist into a eunuch, either surgically or chemically has never proven to be a deterrent. The sexual part of the rape is not what is important to the rapist. The real drive for the rapist is all about power, authority, and absolute control over their victim. Turning them into eunuchs will not change this, it will only result in them expressing their need to control in other equally violent means. I do not support the Courts view that the death penalty should require the loss of a life to qualify. There are some crimes that deserve the death penalty even if there was no "loss of life" involved in the crime.

I see that side too....Actually, I didn't start the Nip Tuck idea...someone else in the thread did...I might have just expounded on it a little.

I understand that sexual gratification is "usually" not the case for any rape...maybe a drunk date rape....but most violent crimes such as rape are all about contol and manipulation.

In that case...if they can't justify the death penalty...then they should at least be placed in prison for a long time with a huge overbearing gay cell mate that will show them what it's like to be forced.
