I hear those things only grow in the SOUTH. They sure do taste good, but some folks, like those folks UP NORTH can't grow them. I hope you aren't using this picture as an image of HATE or else these thangs may get outlawed!
I like muscadines pretty good, but I think I like scuppernongs better. We have both, but ours aren't in yet. We will be having a bumper crop too! We end up eating more than we pick. We stand out by the vines for an hour sometimes just picking and eating. YUUUUUUUUM!

never seen one until now. they look similar to a purple blueberry.
never heard of a scuppernong before. Are these similar to grapes?

Reminds me of the first time I took communion at an independent
church while visiting & their grape juice didn't look like COGOP
grape juice. I was sweatin' bullets for a few minutes & waiting for
someone else to try it out! (I wasn't the only one either!)
They had sparkling grape juice or something of that sort!

Isn't the skin rather tough, and sour? Kind of reminds me of some southerners...

When the skin is proccess right it makes real good perserves. I guess that is southern to.

Scuppernongs are generally a bit bigger than the muscadines Shellie shows. The skin IS a bit tough, but the inside of the skin is where the SWEETEST part resides. I guess if you just judged them by their skin, you would never know that!
They have a similar taste, but just slightly different. If you ever see Muscadine juice or Scuppernong juice at a farmer's market, get some. It tastes just like the fruit, but it is almost $10 a bottle!
