Do you all have a set time to practice? I am just wondering what works for others? Also if they don't show up to practice do they still sing/play? We need to practice. We have people who sing and that limits me to new songs cause they don't know them. We also have others who want to play instruments that we are going to incorporate but we have to have some set structure for practice. I can practice with those instruments but would rather everyone be there and practice together cause it could sound totally different with everyone there. It did this past Sunday. Also we can't set microphones for people cause we don't set a practice. Ok, fuss at me but also I'd like genuine, sincere, suggestions!
Yes, we do have a set list by Sunday morning. I practice during the week and get some ready. Then let Daryl put them in the powerpoint. I do love our worship services and look forward to them each week.

our team practices today. the leader usually has a superset of the set in mind, and then Sunday Morning I get a list before Sunday school as they do a run through (not a full practice) of them before anyone gets there.

Yep every Thursday. Not only is it important for the worship team but also for the tech team (me). It gives me time to find the right backgrounds for each song, double check the spelling and alignments, set the sound leves for the front of house, monitors and ear buds.

You Are Good
All The Earth
Hear Us From Heaven
Wonderful Merciful Savior
God's Gonna Bless His Children

This is ours.
I get in an email from our P&W leader along with the Easyworship file.
That way I can get a different background (something fresh) for each song.

Yeah -- these guys are really dedicated and they really care how they sound. They set aside every Friday night for a complete rehearsal, working on arrangements, learning new music... it has bounced from Thursday–Saturday, but Friday seems to work best now.

Well, that depends. Our core group of musicians have played together a long time and have a basic repertoire of music they have done for a while. If one of them has to miss a practice, but can make the service and we are NOT doing any new music that week, they play, generally. If a new song is being introduced, they do NOT play.

We would never permit someone who is not part of the group to show up with an instrument and sit in... not happening -- unless Chris Tomin or David Crowder drop in!

You "practice" at home, alone... you "rehearse" as a group once everyone knows the song and just needs to tighten up the arrangement, get the modulations in place, know how to end the song, etc. I can't imagine a worship team standing before the church unrehearsed and unprepared any more than I can imagine a pastor doing that. We have, basically, a band: drums, bass, keyboard, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar and a singer or two. They don't just walk up, plug in, and fake their way through 3 chords. They get together, talk about the songs to be selected, pray for one another, and their rehearsals are often a time of worship for them.

Are you telling us that a service starts and you have no idea who will be standing up front singing? Wow. How?

Just learned

This is very cool; some guys from the worship band are just leaving my office to go play at a PARTY. A guy heard them (not sure when or where) and asked them to come play for his birthday party. They said, "Uhhh, we are a WORSHIP band, and all we play is church music." The guy said, I'm a Christian -- works for me!

So, tonight, my church worship band gets an extra dress-rehearsal by playing tomorrow's set (plus a bunch) at a party. :D

So, are they getting paid for this gig? They should be.

Not sure

Not sure -- might be doing it just for the PR value and to promote the church. I know the past few weeks they have sounded tighter and tighter and the worship has gone deeper. Something good is happening.

we had a play by the 7-12 yr old Sunday School after these songs so worship was a bit shorter

We meet on Sunday mornings at 09:00 a.m. to go over the line-up that is e-mailed to us on friday. We rotate on the worship team as to who sings as we have 5 or 6 people for each part. We also have a music intensive twice a year which is normally on a saturday to learn new songs.

God of this City was one we learned this past saturday. Love it. We also learned one called Open up the Sky by Jonathan Stockstill that is awesome.
