Local detective missing

Faron White, a local detective in Decatur, AL, is missing. Last known was he was in his office at the local training center in Decatur late Friday night. He never came home. Police say signs of a struggle are apparent in his office. A search/investigation is in full swing. Pray for Sgt. White and his family, please. He is a good guy, a good officer who does his job as well as you'll find around here. The training center is in an old school that, on the time or two I've been out there since its conversion to police use, you can pretty well just walk into and show yourself to where you need to be. So, you can understand why people would fear the worst. Sgt. White heads up the local police unit on drugs, etc., what you might call a vice squad.

I have several family and friends in Law Enforcement and will pray with you that he be found safe. Lord protect Mr. White and family, Amen.

Talked with deputy earlier. Said investigators told them this morning they have "no clues". WHAT?! Either that's bogus and misinformation OR it is a sad description of the state of investigation here. I'll hold my powder until later. Let's see what happens. I hope it is just dismissive "leave us alone and let us do our jobs" talk.

Anyone fighting organized crime has my full well-wishes. May the worst not have happened, but if it has, may the perpetrators be caught and successfully prosecuted.

Well, turns out there is no perpetrator other than Sgt. White. They arrested him in Las Vegas last night for first degree theft. He is accused of stealing in excess of $2,500 in cash from the police department (probably drug buy money). He apparently staged an abduction and, with the aid of a local woman, absconded to Vegas. She has been arrested as well.

It can happen to anyone in this business. You hear about it more than you like from lawyers, but it happens with police officers too, as we all know.

Thanks for praying for him. He still needs it. At least he's alive. Probably will have thrown away his pension after 22 years of work (maybe not, I don't know), but he's alive.

I hate it when people put the whole country through the trauma of thinking they are in danger and then we find out it is a hoax. We are hearing so much of that in the case of missing children, missing teenagers and even adults that we may finally get to the point that we never even take any report seriously. It is the old classic of the boy crying "wolf" so often that when a wolf really came no body believed him. Then we have the sick case in Orlando of the child who was missing for one month before she was even reported missing. We are living in a sick society.

Do you think that detective actually thought he could get away with what he did? Sometimes people hide for a long time but I can't imagine trying to fake a whole new life and always have to look over your shoulder to see if you are about to be caught.

Well, it was more than $2500, that's just all he took from the police department, that we know of. He is actually in debt heavily supposedly from a gambling problem. He had filed bankruptcy and granted it in 2007 which wiped his slate clean from over $100,000 of debt. It is being reported that he is back to that amount plus more, possibly around $180,000 or more. I feel for his family, and for his soul.
