I, for one, am elated. It is already illegal there, but this enshrines it in their constitution. I wonder how this effects "the day after" birth control pills. I am not necessarily against embryonic abortion in cases of rape and incest, but I am completely against fetal abortion unless it is to save the life of the mother in emergency situations. On the whole, I much prefer too strict a law than too loose a law when it comes to protecting the innocent.

This is a good year in the Caribbean. Innocent life in the Domican Republic and Guantanamo Bay is being honored, respected, and protected.

hey Tim, I'm glad to see this added to there permanent law as well! Just wanted to add a little story about my glorious birth. LOL j/k j/k
My mom got pregnant with me when she was 16. She was an extremely small woman and had a tiny frame and I guess she had some complications or whatever because I was born at the begining of her 6th month. The doctor came to my dad and said that there was a real chance that one or the other of us could die in the process so he asked my dad to choose. I for one am glad he said what he did.....he told the doctor to save us both, that he wasn't in the position to kill off his future wife or son. My dad said that it was in Gods hands to give and take as HE see's fit!
So now, 235lbs later (I was born 3lbs) I am ecstatic with how things went!

Awesome story, Brian. I'm glad your father had that kind of resolve, too. I guess I can't really know until it were to happen to me, but I'm pretty sure that's how I would feel about it, too.

I might add to this discussion that I read some of the opposition's arguments to the Dominican Republic's constitutional amendment. They, of course, focus on the plight of those who seek unsafe abortions. My feeling on that is that while I regret any young girl harming herself, I believe that it is society's responsibility to instill in young people a sense of responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Instead, our society teaches them that they have the option to kill the fruit of their sexual pleasure if it is too much of an inconvenience. My first priority is to protect the life of the innocent.
