Skinny dipping

As some of you know, I get stacks of upcoming books on my desk to look through and I recently came across one from a Christian publisher with a list of things to do before you die. Skinny dipping was among them...with companions. I passed on covering it and then wrote a blog to solicit opinions but another Jude2er thought it would be an interesting topic on here.

Here's my blog if you want to read - http://christianretailing.com/index.php ... hday-suits

On Thursday, my marriage to my wife will be old enough to buy its own beer. We were married on April 30, 1988.

When it was a much younger marriage  , we skinny dipped. Alone. Risky? Oh, yeah. We could've been caught or seen. Not likely under the circumstances but possible. And, I only recall one occasion. Not with companions.

Having made that disclosure --- well, I guess that makes two disclosures, doesn't it --- I'd say there is some responsibility for content by the publisher and some responsibility to advise about content by the retailer. On the front end, I'd say that if the target audience is Christians, from a practical common sense point of view, ix-nay the inny-skay ipping-day part, or at least the part about companions. The only real expectation from publishing that is to generate attention and sales through needless, fruitless controversy.

IF you want to explore the question of Christians and nudism, write a book about it. Then, publishers have an open door to either publish that in a general market where people interested in it can buy it, or to narrow that target to Christians. But, I think good taste counsels that if such a book were targeted to Christians, place an advisory label on the cover. There is an amount of trust by Christians placed on publishers of Christian books, and whether it is warranted or not it is fostered by the publishers so they can sell more books. Don't tick off the customer so easily and stupidly, I say. Warn them or avoid it or divert it to another market. IMO!!!

What was the reason given for skinny dipping to be on this bucket list??

I won't speak for anyone else on here but in my case it would be considered "Fat Dipping!"

Well...if it is confession time.

I got to confess.

I am a regular skinny dipper.

Every time I take a bath I do it naked.
Just can't help the way that I was raised.

Once i bathed naked in the dark...that was spooky too.

I much rather enjoy having the lights on...not so much from a exhibitionist thing as it is a convenience thing...I like to see the soap right before it gets into my eyes.

But usually I don't take baths...I usually shower...and I do that naked as well...

I know that somewhere there is someone that this practice will upset...but oh well. I ain't out there to please anyone.

and...then there is the thing I keep hearing about group showers. About how group showers conserve water. (Husband and wife showering at the same time)

Seems to me that it may conserve water but that a lot more soap is wasted in the meantime.

All in perspective I guess.

I like the term Chunky Dunking if it were me. Been a long time since I would be able to call it skinny dipping.

Good grief, folks. How times have changed. Skinny dipping was a weekly, sometimes daily, occurence every summer where I grew up as a boy. We lived in a coal-mining camp and went swimming in what was called "strip pits" (no pun intended) - and always au naturale. Of course, it was just us boys. Ever see the "Swimming Hole" painting by Rockwell? A perfect depiction.
