"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said yesterday after touching down at JFK for an intimate night on the town.

that is the cost for him flying out and security. He paid for the show and dinner. This will happen anywhere he goes, we have to pay for his security and transportation, for security reasons. That is surely what it cost for him to go anywhere or even less.

would we expect any president to pay for cia service and their flight if they wanted to go somewhere?

The President says were are in HARD economic times. Tougher times are on its way. The President says that we are going to have to SACRIFICE.. each and every one of us (not just the RICH as he said during his political campaign) ... and that means cost us more money. The average folk.

Leaders are supposed to lead by example and President Obama isn't doing that during these TOUGH times in the USA.

It's called being a Hypocrite to put it mildly if you guys still can't connect the dots of what his mouth says and what his actions are.

WASHINGTON (AP) - White House spokesman Robert Gibbs is declining to say what it cost for President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, to eat dinner and take in a play in New York over the weekend.

The president has been criticized for the trip to New York in the midst of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression and with thousands of auto workers facing unemployment as General Motors prepared to file for bankruptcy and Chrysler was about to emerge from court-guided restructuring.

OneLove hit it right on the head, the guy is the top dog in America. As such, everywhere he goes he requires security.

Paully is right too...other presidents have done this stuff before, they have to all live a semblance of a normal life sometime.

I say the taxpayers need to get over it. Obama paid for everything besides security out of his own pocket. Once again if you're the President it comes with the territory...keeping the top dog safe is priority #1.

These stories easily become Republican talking points. When you take a story and put your own spin on it to sway opinion in your favor, that tears it.

Where was your outrage when Bush took trip after trip after trip after trip to Crawford, Texas to "work" from there? Don't tell me it's apples and oranges.

Obama can do no right in your eyes and you'll stop at nothing to keep criticizing him and bashing him...spinning news stories you linked into whatever agenda you want. (see the San Diego officials story thread for a prime example)

Look I don't like Obama either but I don't feel so strongly as to have my own Jude 2 Smear Campaign against the guy using links to stories from a heavily conservative website. I'm not dumb enough to drink the Obama kool-aid and I'm certainly savvy enough to form my own opinions.

I'm waiting on you to post something about a connection between the new Supreme Court justice nominee's name Sotomayor and Barry Soetoro. Come on, let's see it!

You just don't get it do you? I come to this opinion all by lonesome myself.. because I PAY taxes. You have the right to marginalize and impugn my post... but see.. I will not "just get over it" no matter how much you think I need to.

Obama is openly asking for all businesses and the average taxpayer to sacrifice. All I am asking is that he do the same thing on our nickel. Not be extravagant or greedy but spend the money more wisely when so many are losing jobs and hurting. Be a leader that sets an example and that will make him Great. That isn't Republican or Democrat.. but smart.

My feelings are clear and expressed like an echo in the article I posted and not the drivel you assume.

Eager I agree with a lot of what you said. Now Macuser I have a great deal of respect for ya and this is not a slam to you at all. I would like to add if you had any idea what it cost to take bush around the world or to his ranch after 9-11 this would be pennies.
I for one think a president deserves to go out to dinner with the stress he has whether I like him or not.

He can NOT leave without security, he cant do it! So should he never leave the white house?
If he leaves he is forced to have this security, many times they will tell him what security measures will take place, He has no choice in that matter.


There is enough to bash him on, for the man taking his wife out to eat and watch a show, I actually commend him for that. You cant have much of a marriage in this position but he seems to be trying....

Seriously we have to admit Bush comparisons ( or any other recent history President) are not applicable in this situation. Bush didn't come out and state that we were in the worst ever economic times, call on all to tighten our belts, pay more taxes, drive smaller cars and that it was going to get much worse... and that each of us were going to have to personally sacrifice during this epic recession.

It's also great that he loves his wife. Fantastic actually.. BUT You know as well as I do that you don't have to stage such a epic lavish celebrity level event of to take your wife out to a special dinner and/or show her a good time. Especially in a time of his own admittance... near "Great Depression" as he states. In doing this.. you are going to appear Greedy and Lavish when others are suffering.
