convention

Postby thorin323 » July 29th, 2009, 10:43 am

Hello here is a video from a COGOP church convention in the 60's hope you'll check it out. The sound is a tad off but still pretty good for as old as it is.

Looks more like an old assembly march than a state convention...Maybe I'm wrong.

Was that James Staggs leading the group in?
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Bro. Staggs performed a wedding ceremony for my parents way back in 1960?

He was my pastor in 1994 and State Overseer.
I attended church with him until he died.
Sis. Christine still attends here.
I don't have to prove God's existance. He's already proven that. I just have to prove that He lives within me.

For the GRACE of God that BRINGETH Salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, DENYING ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should LIVE soberly, righteously, and godly, IN THIS PRESENT WORLD; Titus 2:11-12

Was Bro Staggs the overseer of Virginia during this... or was it after this??? I learned to walk in Virginia (1967ish) while we were visiting him and his sweet wife, Lena. I think I was told we were at the Virginia State Convention... My dad, Bro Gene and Bro Staggs were great friends and he still loves to visit Sis Christine...actually have been promising to take him to see her....

I have a home video in storage that I shot in 1988 when Bro. Staggs was in Mississippi preaching a homecoming service. I'm not sure how old he was at the time, but he had to be on up there.

Where at in MS? Was he scheduled to preach in the morning and then testify after lunch?

My husband once attended a service where Bro. Staggs preached for two hours. He must have been great to hold one's attention that long. He was highly respected by our family.
God Bless,

If someone were to pay you ten cents for every kind word you ever spoke and collect five cents for every unkind word, would you be rich or poor?

That's the truth. Preached for 3 hours one Sunday night where I was a member. I don't know that a single book of the bible was left out of it in one way or another.
