So why when it is raining fairly hard out do people find a need to duck while running to and from their vehicles like they are entering or exiting a helicopter?

Ducking

I duck because I wear glasses and hate to get them wet and have to clean them over and over.

Well, Maybe people duck because ducks like rain.
Are these people quacking and waddling as well?
PG, does walking like a duck in the rain really keep your glasses clean? 8)
So many questions in life you never really think of until someone asks!

So why?

Do people want to go to sleep when it rains. They say it's good sleeping weather.

It is! Until the tornado sirens blare at 1:30 AM, like it did with us Thursday morning. We had a tornado warning. My cell phone rang (my brother -- "We've got a tornado warning!"), I yelled getting my wife up because the radar showed the storm headed right for our town, then we joined our neighbors in a storm shelter, sat there for 7-8 minutes while the sirens blared, then silence and the radio saying "the weak rotation in the storm has weakened further and the warning has been allowed to expire..."

That part? Not so sleep-friendly.

Ducking down keeps wind and rain out of your face especially if it is windy and raining.

the soothing sounds of the rain as well as the poor conditions for going out.

I have one of those white noise clock/radio machines on the nightstand next to my head as I sleep at night. It projects the time on the ceiling in big letters so I can see what time it is when I wake at night (a solution to a many-years-long problem in my marriage where I would abruptly wake up and say aloud, "What time is it?!" --- of course, I have awful vision without my glasses so ...). But, I often turn on the "rain" sound, with low, low volume (my wife doesn't like the noise) and I put our TV on the Soundscapes channel on digital cable (ambient new age type music). I'm out like a light with that. Any kind of soft but constant sound in the background makes me sleepy. When I was a kid, my mother would vacuum and I would fall asleep on the couch while she had it on. Crazy, I know.
