Elwood's impact

I was saved during an Elwood & Roberta Matthews revival at the West Huntsville, Alabama COGOP when I was 12. I remember the moment of epiphany for me... Elwood made the gramatically incorrect but Theologically powerfully statement that "God ain't got no grandchildren." He went on to explain that just because mama and daddy are Christians, that doesn't necessarily make YOU one; each generation must choose Christ for themselves.

That was what did it for me.

Elwood Matthews was one of the great ones, and moves to his reward now.

It is also a testimony of his life's impact that his funeral will be held at the church pastored by Larry Linkous, a product of a COGOP family. (Son of Malcolm and Hannah Linkous)

What a great testimony

Well Elwood was a man with Vison, Way back in the 80's he said that the world was changing and that there will be new positions in a Church that will take advantage of the those people who love the technical side of things.

He said that Churches will realize that Video will have a great impact on how we as Christians reach the world with the Gospel. No longer will Video just be one guy taping the Christmas play for his family, but great witnessing tools to be seen the world over. I have not talked to him in some time, I wish I had the chance to hear his thoughts on how the Internet was changing ministry just like video had before the Internet.

I was honored to work for Elwood at VOS, he made everyone feel that their job was important, from the grip pulling cable to the director, i know I did both of those and just about every other job that needed to be done.

A Great man of God that changed my forever, he will be truly missed...

Enjoy your reward Elwood you deserve every bit of it.

I watched the memorial service last night...It's a little over two hours but it was a fitting end to a life well lived.
