Early Tea Party victories

It's still nearly a year away from elections and the TEA Party has already racked up some wins and have not even spent any money on candidates and their campaigns.
Two incumbent democrats in TN have announced their "retirement" and said they would not be seeking re-election. Both have been targeted by the TEA Party for their liberalism and refusal to speak openly and honestly with those in which they are supposed to represent. One of these has held Al Gore's old Congressional seat for the last 25 years, since Gore went to the Senate.
The two names are Bart Gordon and John Tanner.
Is this phenomena happening in your neck of the woods?

You need to watch the "right" channels. Either way.. John Kerry sure has heard of them and apparently... "he ain't happy"
Kerry fundraising letter: Defeat Sarah Palin and Tea Parties
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/T ... ea-Parties
Sen. John Kerry's new fundraising letter seeks to make a bogeyman of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement and rally liberals for the 2010 midterm elections.
..“Think GOP obstruction is bad now?” Senator Kerry asks in a fundraising letter sent out Tuesday morning by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “Just imagine what Washington would look like if a bunch of new senators – inspired by Sarah Palin and the tea party crowd – took over.”
..With the Democratic caucus holding 60 seats in the Senate – exactly the number needed to defeat a Republican filibuster – Kerry suggested in his letter that "the loss of even one or two would flip crucial votes in their favor and doom President Obama’s agenda.”
...
“If you think this movement is more circus sideshow than actual threat, you’d be mistaken.” Palin and the Tea Party movement have gained enough public legitimacy to at least serve as a foil for Democratic ambitions.
Shortly after resigning the Alaska governorship this summer, Palin's favorability rating was 39 percent, according to CNN. Now relieved of actual governance and inspired by a popular book tour and relaxed TV appearances,
Palin has pushed her rating to 46 percent. By a somewhat less scientific measure,
she also recently got a 30-second ovation on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" – a show that has mercilessly mocked her.

Conan has or at least had, a re-occurring skit where William Shatner would come out and read excerpts from her book. Last week, Palin actually came out on stage (to a good applause) to play to this. mocked the reading and then read excerpts from Shatners book. Very well played if you ask me. Showed her in a playful mood.

Phil, you're right. Republicans spent like drunk monkeys. And, if you give them purse strings today, they'll do the same exact thing and then some. Like the Democrats, they never, ever change.
That's why Republicans will be part of some sort of Obamacare-lite, or something close to Obamacare, ultimately. Republicans will not have the courage to vote against the omnibus bill that, it looks like for now, will contain the Obamacare bill exactly as Democrats want it. Or, they will see the writing on the wall and just 2-3 of them will take one on the chin for the rest of the party (in their minds, they'll think this way) and vote with Democrats on the current proposals that have the whole thing locked down in the Senate (and my prayer is that it stays locked down, shut down, and dies a merciless death). Republicans will, given the choice between spending and not spending, spend.
That's why it is absolutely necessary to vote every single person in Washington, D.C. out, and to not vote for anyone who has ever spent more than a year of his or her life there. If we can't accomplish a revolution by the ballot box (and, I maintain we will not), then I'm all for the nastier, more violent kind our forefathers fought against King George III. This madness has to end. A libertarian government is the only hope for a strong, free America in the future.

Sure. I agree to your point partly... because I am the demonized right wing conservative in that group.
On the other side of that point... there are two huge differences that come immediately to mind though Phil..
1) Uncontrolled Spending. The Republicans caused some agitation.. BUT Obama has spent more in his first 9 months than all the rest of the Presidents combined. This uncontrolled spending isn't sustainable and some adults are going to have to step in and take over and spank the kids.
2) Average Americans or Tea Party crowd are attempting to reorganize and repurpose the Republican Party and eject the Elite Liberal Rhinos back into the closets. It's an outside move for control by leap frogging the elites.
Use this analogy..
Remember when your dad ( Common Sense Working Man ) was distracted either working, working at home, or watching his favorite program while you kids played? Everything was great because you had to rule of the house.. but when the children went to far , broke something, got extremely loud, or hurt each another.. the distracted respected adult figure had to step in and correct the situation, set limits, giving warnings, and/or exact punishment... and ultimately had to demonstrate the underlying ( albeit forgotten/ignored by the kids ) authority.
This is exactly what is going on now... and it's long overdue.
Not buying it, Chris

we have had DEFICITS all of my life time..
And finally, FINALLY some "blow hards" have stepped up and started squeaking and squawking about it.
THESE same people were slobbering all over themselves with the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld regime.

We were asleep Phil but not any longer and I am not a blow hard but a registered voter that is very conservative minded. If I wanted my children to live in Europe then I would move them there.
Why is it that the ONLY argument that liberals have in favor of OBAMA's spending is that Bush did it and we didn't complain? That's not a reason. That's not an argument. That's not a policy. That's a bad excuse for bankrupting the USA!!!
By the way, as a conservative I was against Bush from the day he was named the Republican nominee and I stayed against him for 8 years. He was not and is not conservative!
I have never put a lot of stock

Let's drop the bomb...on Washington, when all the insiders are there, including the elected officials and unelected panderers like lobbyists, political correspondents, judicial activists, and liberal & conservative weed whackers alike.
Then we can start over, and elect a whole new batch of the same types, who will attract the same power-seekers and money grubbers, and the stage will be set the same...but they'll know the bomb can land on them, too...

Yes.. but so did the guy that finally went bankrupt last week also. If you keep spending like crazy.. somethings going to crack.
Let's apply some balance. We hated this when Bush did it.. but look what Obama has done in just his FIRST 9 Months.
President Bush expanded the federal budget by a historic $700 billion through 2008 ( over 8 years! ). President Obama would add another $1 trillion ( and did this in first 9 months!!!! ).

how much of that money spent by obama was already being prepared to be spent by bush. we forget that bush started the bailouts. that bush wasted billions on iraq. i wonder if obama inherited alot of that debt. just thinking out loud. but i will say this, the tea party people are coming off like a bunch of blow hards and crazies. they will not change much.

Really? Ask your people in your Church if this is so. You might be talking about some of your members. Ask them if they think the Tea Party crowd is looking out for our grandchildren or just blow hard crazies.
It's these common sense ADULTS that have seen the decline and can quickly recognize the irresponsible policies that got us here.

When Obama was elected he promised to spend money to create jobs and stimulate the economy. Unemployment at the time stood at a little over 7%. It now stands at around 10.5% and that's only counting those that are still drawing a check. What about those that have run out of time? I never could understand the reasoning behind the law that CONGRESS passed limiting the President to two terms yet there are no term limits on Congress or the Senate. Makes you go "Hmmm".
