Blessed

What did first century Jews believe it looked like to be blessed? They thought much the same way as many modern day Christians. What a shame. Surely great riches are a sign of being blessed by God? Surely those who walk in perfect health...surely this is a sign of God's favor?

No, says Jesus, startling his disciples, waking us up from our slumber

Blessed are

the poor who love God

those with broken hearts who weep

the hungry who don't have decent clothes

the pure in heart

those who are hated and persecuted for my names sake

What does it mean to be blessed? Ask Jesus.

Russell, you should log on next Sunday and listen to Pastor Gary's series of sermons on this. I'm truly enjoying it. Last Sunday really spoke to my heart and gave me encouragement. I keep going back to my notes and gaining new strength and perspective on the scripture.

Also, it was fun to tell my sons that I attended church in HI Sunday when they asked if I went to church. (It was extremely cold here Sunday.)

Well, he's not the run the isle, whoop and holler, preacher. However, after hearing his message you walk away with food that you can chew on all week and even longer. I believe that's what a preacher is supposed to do. Remember the scripture about preachers being given for the perfecting of the saints? I don't think anyone has been perfected by an emotional high.

So, thanks Pastor Gary!

Martha, that is exactly why I think I would like him.

Y'all are great for my ego today!

No, I am not a sweatin', screamin', red-in-the-face preacher; I am way more of a TEACHER-preacher. I do, however, seek to inform, illuminate and encourage.

If I were a REAL preacher, I'd do that with 3 E words...
Edify
Encourage
Enlighten

If I were a real preacher, I'd do the following 3 E words...

Evangelize
Equip
Engage

What would you do with three "E" Words

 My post lacked context: I have been contemplating some things over the past weeks, and it seems that the Lord was speaking to me in "E" words.

Eternity, evangelize, edification, equipping, encouragement, evidence... I started seeing a pattern there.
