With the basic package (they do try to upsell you on other products to use with the P90X), you get the 13 DVDs, a nutritional book, and a fitness book.
Each DVD is a workout routine. Each day you do a DVD that is a different work out. Normally it is one day of resistance training, the next day more cardio training. You do this for 6 days a week, the 7th it is your choice to rest or do the stretch video.
You do the same routine for three weeks, then you get a rest week. This week is mostly doing cardio, stretching, and yoga type of workouts. Then the next three weeks is another order of workouts (some are the same workout, just different order). Then a rest week again. Then the last 4 weeks are split into two different workouts.
Some of the work out is just getting into a position and holding that position for a certain time. Your muscles will burn like crazy. Many of them I can't finish now. Right now, I can barely walk because my legs are so sore.
The nutritional guide has three phases also. The first one is high protein and low carbs, then the rest decrease in the amount of protein and increase the amount of carbs.
They have three different ways, one is a list of food divided into categories (like protein, carbs, vetegable, fruits) you can have a certain amount of servings from each group.
They also have a meal plan you can follow. They have recipes also you can use.
The final is when you must eat fast, they have a list of food that you can eat from fast food restaurants.
They of course have a whole marketing scheme around P90X, with supplements. They have vitamins, protein shakes, protein bars, and a recovery drink. I only use the recovery drink right now.
I did upgrade to get the pull bar that goes in the door way, got a 30 day supply of recovery drink (this taste pretty good actually), bands for resistance training, and some extra DVDs. You can also use dumb bells. I may buy some later.
It is a little expensive, but I think it is worth it. It is a tough exercise program though. I do plan to put the videos and pictures on my blog if you want to follow my progress with it.
