I can't wait for God to wipe that SMIRK off...

Pat Robertson's face. He is blaming the earthquake and the poverty of Haiti on their supposed pact with the devil. He is the reason people reject Jesus Christ. What a smug, judgmental, self-righteous freak.
He just has to start flappin' his pie hole every time something bad happens so he can feel like he is holy and get attention.

totally disagree, for the most part many people don't even know or care what Pat Robertson says.
the reason that may reject Christ is the actions of every day people that call themselves Christians, Yet are the first one to spread rumors, are the first one to believe rumors. They are the ones that love to beat someone over the head if they were to fall and take joy in the failings of others that do not believe exactly they same as they do. We like to say we are "Christ like" and if they don't believe like we do they are "Chrislt Lite"
but most of all those so called Christians who forget that they are only sinners saved by grace.
God allows many things to happen to many to many different people, and it might not be God punishing them it might just be God Testing us.
Yup

I totally agree. Robertson gives spirit filled Christians a bad name.

Russell I understand what you mean but I think it came out a little worse then he meant it. I grew up a couple miles from him in va beach (until 2 years ago) and he does say some CRAZY things that I disagree with and I can not watch his program at all because of all his prophecies etc....
Now he will send more aid then most any other org. in America and he does do a lot for many nations. But yes he gets on my nerves sometimes to.
That place "CBN" is worth a fortune..

I'm sure Pat Robertson does a lot of good things. But his statement reflects poorly on Christianity. I say that as one who is fully aware of things that I have done and continue to do that may reflect poorly on Christianity. But regarding Robertson, he conveys the impression that God is an angry, vengeful, and capricious God.
Now some of you may agree with that. That's fine. If that is your perception of God, I honestly feel sorry for you. This morning I was thinking about the whole tithing thing. Besides reflecting bad theology it also conveys the idea that we serve an angry and capricious God who requires placation by his subjects. My former pastor (he's not worthy of the title) painted the picture of a God who really needed our help by making that 10%. Should someone fail to hit the magic number, God would curse them.
How is that conception of God any different from a million other pagan religions?
P.S. He's the one that recently threatened to beat the sh** out of my brother and then stomp the hell out of me if we ever posted anything else about him on facebook (which, btw, I never did). But he has become like what he worships - an angry, vengeful, and judgmental god with a small g. What happened was that my brother posted a short clip of one of his sermons in which he advocated praying for the death of babies in Iraq.
For the record, his name is Kent Yarborough and he runs a cult in Harrisville, Mississippi under the guise of a non-denominational church named "New Covenant" (I call it Old Covenant based on their theolgy). I hope word of this post gets back to him. Oletimer, here is your opportunity to go after a wolf. If you think it's me, call Kent Yarborough. If not, you could go after Kent. His number is 601-847-3798.

I'm less worried about God wiping anything off of Pat Roberson's face than my own. You should be too...

RR... you say you want to call out pat on this, and yet you know you have done things that reflect poorly on Christianity.
if you know you have not always done this best in this area, and as you say continue to fall short in this area. Why do you feel the need to call someone out on the same issue. It appears to me that you would more likely be have a feeling empathy and be more willing to give him grace on that matter.
to me it is almost like the splinter in your eye and the log in your neighbors to me. but I could be wrong... I have a lot of logs that block my view

TC,
I hear what you are saying. I'm not against sowing some grace. The longer I attempt to spread the gospel over the internet the more cognizent I am of how the things I say might detract from the message I am trying to spread. I think it is one thing to say something on a message board and something quite different to say it on television to millions of viewers.
Then again, maybe I'm just trying to justify myself. I'm open to correction and rebuke and have taken a fair amount of it. that's probably a good thing because, as I said, it makes me more cognizent of my audience and who might be listening. I was quite perturbed about his statement when I posted this thread. I should have really waited as it has, once again, detracted from some more important things I could be tending to.
I would still make a post about it. But I would probably be a lot more judicious with my wording. Thanks brother.

Hey I am 45 years old and the only thing I can say for a fact is keeping myself in line is a full time job.
For way to many years I had the thought that if someone did not believe the exact same thing as I did they were just wrong.... Problem is I was just wrong. And while my statement or belief may have been 100% right, my attitude and response was 100% wrong. I was not changing hearts or minds, I was giving people a reason to not hear my words because my actions were too loud.
Ok this is from a song and to me it is one of the best statement because it is so profound and simple at the same time.'
it all comes down to a man, dying on a cross saving the world.
I am doing my part to share that, everything else (as obama says) is above my pay grade.

So are you working an extra shift this week or have you secured a second job?
