See if you can start up on some PC safe mode or on a Repair CD or another bootable drive to test and see if it's the hardware. If it works fine then.. it's your OS. Clear as mud?

Find the part # and google it. I've found cheap repairs over the years .. you never know.

Keyboards are fairly easy to replace on laptops.

Finding out the right screws is what takes time.

Do a search on Removing Keyboard on a XXXX laptop..

See what you find.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I found a keyboard for my laptop for around $25. I found a manual on the internet for my laptop. I will buy it from Amazon and give it a go to change it myself. The only part I am worried about a plastic strip pops off, worried about breaking that.

I did buy a wireless keyboard for the time being from Best Buy. I figure I will use for my desktop when I buy a new one. Feels (and probably looks) a little odd not using the keyboard on a my laptop though.

It maybe also just sticking keys. sounds like the Alt key is stuck!
Which will give a code key. Alt + delete is 80=p

Depending on the model, the plastic piece above the keyboard may have screws holding it or it may not, just go slowly and don't force anything, I do these all the time at work, and depending on the brand/model, may be able to tell you the screws you need to remove, but of course the manual should do that too.
