Rambo I'm an American and have paid my dues. I'm also a Southerner and that by birth and being a good Southerner also makes me a good American. Did I say anything about "Pride".

Kewl! So am I. I also happen to be a Confederate, and proud of it. Our's is a rich shared heritage and legacy, though not all rainbows and roses. let's celebrate it, understand it, and accurately relate it to the generations to come.

Yours in Liberty,

I'm American, yes. But I am also a Confederate; & the standard American history concerning the war for Southern independence is severely biased -- inaccurate at best, and purposely false and denigrating at worst. I have both the right and privilege to know, share, and defend my heritage - which while American, is also uniquely Southern, or Confederate. We are our own people, our own culture, and our own nation, occupied and coexisting within another nation. We deserve, and exercise the right, to maintain our identity and heritage, despite it's detractors.

It's no different culturally than when the native American tribes, the indigenous people of Alaska, or Hawaii, or than when Jewish, Arab/Muslim, Irish or African Americans proudly proclaim and preserve their heritage and way of life.

It's no different politically or nationally than the struggle, and eventual reassertion of identity & independence of numerous nations once held in the Soviet block (i.e. Kosovo, Lithuania, & Georgia).

It's no different historically than when the original thirteen colonies made a redress of grievances against the tyrannical English crown, their eventual secession therefrom, and the institution of a better form of government of their choosing to preserve the blessing of liberty by the CONSENT of those so governed.

That's why. :D

The Confederacy came into existence about 1860 and ceased to exist in 1865. It is a brief chapter in the history of the southern United States. Were it not one of the causes of a devastating and bloody war, it's duration would barely rate a footnote.

There are many honorable chapters in the history of the Southern United states to identify with. The brief period of time in which some of the South's leading citizens abrogated their responsibilities to the rest of the country, and dragged their fellow Southerners into a ruinous war that the economy of the South is still recovering from, seems a less than optimum choice on many levels.

Go tell this to a bunch of people in inner-city Chicago and call me when you make it back alive.

Tension over the Confederate flag

Lingering racial tensions have made their mark on South Carolina sports for years, notably in the NCAA ban on all postseason games in the state in response to the Confederate flag that flies on statehouse grounds, occasionally exercised for conference tournaments as well. The latest protest, though, is coming from within the state's own borders, by members of the legislature -- including a former South Carolina player -- who have begun encouraging black recruits to renege on their commitment to the Gamecocks in opposition to the pending exit of the only black member of the university's board of trustees:

It's my intention too. I've instructed my wife to fill me in that way on the census when she fills it out.

Totally agreed with your sentiment quoted above.

Just more hatred, stupidity, and division fostered by yankee-myth and the racism it engenders.

Kosovo, Lithuania, & Georgia).

The nations were conquered by the Soviets. Are you saying the South has been conquered by the USA? I suppose the argument could be made.

Is yankee used as a slur?

I applaud this statement !!!!!! I do not get the south verse north nonsense..
I am thankful I grew up in va beach a military area where there was never talk of this. We were all just Americans. Northerners everywhere and southerners everywhere......why does one think where they lives makes them better or more right just because some inner cities are so liberal?

that is a very biased and dividing statement. You are judging so many people for things that happened waaaaaay before your time..... you have the same rights as any northerner so you are not a prisoner per se in this nation.

I know I have said this before but try to fly the confederate flag in my high school..... It was a racist statement, though the flag IS NOT racist when used by many in this generation it is a racist statement.

Call me a yankee then even though I was raised in the south, I would rather be a proud American then to believe that we are slaves...sounds like another argument about people and past crimes yet equal rights are there......what are you not getting that the north gets.

There is no wonder the media paints this image of republicans... no disrespect but man I am shocked.

let me add if anyone does call for war with the north then they need to be tried for treason for the insanity they presented. That was the most horrific and bloody war in our history. The south was not all innocent either....
