Does this mean I need a new battery?

I have heard if you first calibrated the battery if you installed SL and when the computer got down to about 15% battery the "Service Battery" indicator disappeared. So try recalibrating .

Good reply.

Question: Are you having issues with the battery?

the battery warnings on most computers are iffy at best. If your battery is working and lasting well for you, great, that's the biggest indicator. If it's not holding a charge, or only lasts for a few minutes, then you need a new battery (IF you use it on battery much, if not, it's not hurting anything)
