These are exact words.

If you do not want to fellowship with your church body, then there is something wrong with you

If you were told this, what would you think. Do you agree or disagree?

What is the meaning of fellowship? Some people don't necessarly get involved into activitites but may like to stand around after service and talk with ther brothers and sisters. Would I agree or disagree, I think that's up to the person.

I agree 100%. BUT, let me waffle this much: It depends on what you mean by "wrong".

If you are in a church where there is no pastoral care on any level, yeah, something is wrong with you. You're not being shepherded.

If you are in a church where there is lots of care but you have a problem with everything that happens, yeah, something is wrong with you. You've got something going on that is causing you to be a malcontent or at least discontent.

If you are being told something is wrong with you by someone who is looking to shift the focus from themselves, then something is wrong with you, indeed: you've got decisions to make and corrective actions to take about where you are "in church" (radical, perhaps unnecessary, perhaps necessary) or at least where you can change your own way of living and ministering (probably more constructive and most likely the first choice).

If you are being told something is wrong with you by someone who has your best interest at heart and is just laying it on the line that you need to take corrective action about your life, then, you probably ought to stop for a bit and weigh that, see if there is likely to be truth in that challenge, and get humble about it and be willing to adjust and start adjusting.

My .02.

It depends on the situation. What context was the statement made in. I do agree that fellowship with members in the church is vital to our journey with God. But I would not agree with the statement if it was made to put a guilt trip on you for missing a church event. Been there...experienced that way too much.

100% true!!! church attendance is directly connected to your personal relationship with God. and yes there is a an exception to every rule in many ways but the church is the Bride of Christ. if someone wants to be best friends with me and hates my wife it wont work!!!!

Penny, I might would ask for a bit of clarity from ya. Is the question from the context where you have someone going to church who doesn't fellowship with the rest of the church body outside of regular church services? Like they go to church but just don't ever really have any other social connections with there church mates?

Or is it about someone who doesn't go to church services (fellowship) with other christians are being told they should go to church to fellowship with other believers and that person is like "I don't have to be affiliated (even loosely) with other people, I can fellowship just fine with my core family right here at home with just us and no one else". :)

And I would say that if the second scenario is true then yes my dear, there is something wrong with you. :)

Clarification, please: is it a church body that is so dysfunctional people don't want to fellowship with it? If not, if it is a healthy body, then it would seem natural to desire contact, wouldn't it?

It would seem more prevalent in an small church where some of the body of Christ may feel like others aren't pertaken in fellowship or activities for the growth of the church. For this reason they may have said that.

But really should the church body condemn others for not participating in activities outside of church services?

I've seen this told to our older generation, where some weren't physically able to be there. It may come down to whom is saying it and why? :-#

First.. Who and what is "The Church"?

A specific organized Church Facility with Christian Religious People?

This chrch is smaller.

Ithink the person was out of line. And this person has put down my friend befor when they could not do something.

This was said to one about 43 years old.

I do now if they do not stop, this may stop them from coming to chuch.

Penny, just like some families are dysfunctional (a family in which conflict, misbehavior, and often abuse on the part of individual members occur continually and regularly) some churches are dysfunctional. There are congregations in which people assemble to worship in the same building, but wouldn't stop to speak to one another in the aisles of WalMart. There are churches full of gossip, backbiting, legalism, full of condemnation and judgment... a toxic environment. Not sure why ANYONE would want to 'fellowship' with a group like that -- if, by fellowship, you mean hanging around socially.

My church is very diverse, and within it there are numerous groups of people who prefer one another's company over the company of others. Some call those cliques. I call them affinity groups.
