NASA: New Foremost Mission to improve relations with Muslims

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world

.. The NASA administrator was in the Middle East last month marking the one-year anniversary since Obama delivered an address to Muslim nations in Cairo. Bolden spoke in June at the American University in Cairo -- in his interview with Al Jazeera, he described space travel as an international collaboration of which Muslim nations must be a part.

Beam me up? I'll let Charles Krauthammer reply to this:

"This is a new height in fatuousness. NASA was established to get America into space and to keep is there. This idea to feel good about their past and to make achievements is the worst combination of group therapy, psychobabble, imperial condescension and adolescent diplomacy." - Charles Krauthammer

You know, I've thought more than once why it is our government even countenances any nation as a "Muslim nation". It ought to be that any mention of nations as Muslim, or any policy based on the religious practices and beliefs of the people of that nation, should be banned as violative of the 1st Amendment. On the one hand, a law school can ban the Christian Legal Society from participation in school funded activities if they don't accept all comers without regard to religion, and indeed must do so if they want that money, all because of the 1st Amendment, but on the other hand, we're publicly financing a space agency's specific, explicit efforts to make nice with Muslims because of their religion. The absurdities never seems to end, nor does the evil of the Federal government.
Human government bears the same relation to hell as the church bears to heaven. (David Lipscomb, On Civil Government, 72).

White House denies NASA remark on Muslim outreach
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100712/ap_ ... _muslims_1

WASHINGTON – The White House is contradicting the NASA administrator's claim that President Barack Obama assigned him to reach out to Muslims on science matters.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently told Al-Jazeera network that one of the charges Obama gave him was "to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and engineering."

Some conservative activists criticized the remarks.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that such activities are not among Bolden's assigned tasks. He said administration officials have spoken with NASA about the matter.

**************

Now comes the POLITICAL SPIN...

Wow what a mess this entire administration is. Apparently Bolden is getting invisible messages from Obama... just like the Russians were doing to phone home. Zowie.

SPEED BUMP... That was the sound of Bolden thrown under the BUS.
