Old me / Mellow me

Today was a really insightful day for me, personally.

My long-time primary tech guy, Steve, moved with his wife to MO recently. We are still sorting out the who-does-what now to distribute his role. We use a small video camera donated by RAMBO (shout out!) as a production pass-through... it takes the live analog video from the switcher and converts it to digital video with Firewire output to the streaming laptop. (I just lost all the non-techie readers in one sentence...)

ANYway...

My daughter's boyfriend is helping edit the services to 00:58:30 for TV broadcast, and that is done (currently) by extracting mini-DV video recorded on that camera... but nobody reminded him that "Oh, by the way, we need that camera at church Sunday..." -- and his dad is a Pastor, so he was at Dad's church when we noticed the camera was not on site.

Bottom line, the only work-around we could figure out last minute was an audio-only webcast with a "Sorry - technical difficulties" sign.

The OLD micro-manager, Type-A leader would have wrung my hands and gone ballistic, but I have apparently (A) learned to be a better leader, and/or (B) aged and mellowed.

Pretty sure I've mellowed, because I just shrugged and said, "Oh, well..."

(...and it was a pretty good message, too...)

Congrats.
You have become wise enough to know that it would have been futile.
Essentially God is taking you into a deeper understanding of relationship...

Awesome stuff.

Awesome report on your change/patience. too bad about the other miscommunication/issues. I feel for you, and can EMPathise.

I too have found myself with more patience in these area's of late and especially in the last handful of years. in fact, in my earlier days, I was very "OCD" about these kinds of things and would get panic attacks for something as simple as a special song (sound track) handed to me (media engineer) just before service with no warning or practice.

my most recent challenge was when someone else (other than me) ran the gear the week prior (I was on vacation), and left the video mixer switched to "black". he was using it to mix between song/lyrics in Easy Worship (he didn't remember how to do that in the software), I was preaching that week, so my wife (our only other backup for media, currently) was running and she had never used the video mixer, and was expert in the use of EW.

So they were back there running things for Praise and worship (I am on the P&W team too, so wasn't helping), and everythign was great. he was "mixing" the EW, and she was running the sound. when it was time for me to preach, he left, and she was trying to turn on my PPT, but he left the switch at black, as mentioned (i found out later). we don't import the PPT to EW, because our RF-remote doesn't work when EW is working, only for PowerPoint.

So she launched the Powerpoint and went to presentation, but nothing was happening. (remember the fade to black-switch).

Well, in my previous days, I would have stopped the sermon, and went to the back and troubleshot the issue before continuing with or without finding a solution or workaround. in this case, I just continued on and preached without the PPT. did it bother me? yup, very, very much. did it stop me or even pause me from continuing? nope. the PPPT itself is just an enhancement to the message, a tool. I learned a long time ago that relying on tech for the message content was a mistake (for most normal messages).

so with all that said... is it that we are just getting older? or is it that we are growing in our discipled, relationship with GOd and that trust continues to be enhanced in that relationship. :)

On the left hand it's you're getting Old, on the right hand it's you're leadership/discipleship skills.  Just kidding. It's more that you're having peace with God that is shining through. (mellowing out)
