TTP, kind of old, but not dated...

I know there has been threads about this in the past, as this forum is where I first heard about TTP: http://www.thetruthproject.org/

When I heard about it, i was awestruck that this kind of thing was available. it was something that I had been teaching in my GAP (graduates and professionals) Sunday School class, in the form of a introduction to Theology course (took over 2 years of Sundays).

After some research when I read about it here on J2, I immediately began searching for a close location to attend the leader-training that was necessary to attain the curriculum. There was one sceduled at a church with a Sattalite hookup in a city nearby about 6 months later. I couldn't wait.

After the class, I was even more fired up to lead this kind of discussion and "class" (called tours). The biggest problem was that they highly recommend that you do not deviate from the proposed way of having the classes. in a home setting with small group, and scheduling weekly times. the tours would be over two hours each. a time of introduction and fellowship, then the video (about an hour each), then about an hour following for discussion (and fellowship).

The 2-hour (really about 2 and a half to 3) a week was something I couldn't get anyone interested in. there was a few family and maybe one person from church that would - but mostly cause they were being nice to me, i think.

after prayer for nearly 2 years more, and many changes in my life and ministry, an opportunity came along that I believe was a Godsend, adn it is working for us.

The plan: Use the normal Wednesday evening service and split the video's in half. while this was NOT the recommended way of doing it, it does work for us. So Each Wednesday, we start off with some P&W, and many come early for fellowship and discussion of what's happened so far. then we show about half the video clip, then use the remaining 20 minutes or so in discussion.

It is THE Awesome!

After a few weeks of this, we changed up the process and added a volunteer, or optional time. what we do is an hour before the normal service time, we play the previous weeks video clip, then have that half hour for discussion (there is P&W practice going on too) and fellowship. a time that I don't actually lead, but rather, kind of moderate. This allows for people to: 1. review the previous weeks video if they had missed that week, or 2. review the video of the previous week, so they have a chance to see that weeks whole video in the same evening.

I have been approached by half a dozen people or so asking that we do this AGAIN, and the next time do the full 2-hour a week session (as is preferred). And further that we continue to provide these as an ongoing and repeated curriculum.

There are 12 tours (really 13, as tour 5 is a two-parter, which took us 4 weeks!) and each one is a particular theme and thought they dont' specifically build on teh previous, some aspects of each tour do have mention of previous tours. it is possible to present the tours individually, if the leader is experienced and well versed in the topic to answer questions about things mentioned in previous tours. I don't suggest doing it this way, but this may be how we do it later, after going through the whole thing at least once.

In fact, one of the people that attend this, got so excited about it that she went to the leaders training this year as well, so she could lead a study at her wor/job.

okay, with that book-post written and posted, anyone else go through this? any other leaders that have lead it?
