Does this story about Christine O'Donell dabbling in witchcraft a decade ago, have any impact on the premise of the Tea Party movement? Just curious.

Y'know, I didn't recognize her from being on Politically Incorrect until I saw this story earlier. Then, I had that "aha!" moment where I remembered seeing her on there. As I recall, she was a recurring panelist on the program, invited to be fodder for Maher's jokes. I remember thinking, though, "This gal is holding her own." Not that she is rhetorically sharp like Bill Maher (he makes his living off a quick tongue, not a particularly deep intellect). She's not. But, she also stood her ground, again as I recall, when he poked at her and challenged her. She sometimes looked silly, oftentimes looked sincere, always looked opposed to Maher. That would go a long way by itself. :lol:

There are just some people I have no appreciation for at all because, although they are also sincere, they are sincerely opposed to my freedom and yours. One of those someones is Bill Maher. Another one is Jon Stewart. What they are doing in hammering on O'Donnell is representing the whole school of thought that the elites really do know better than you do what is good for you. The problem is that that school of thought is thoroughly bipartisan. It is THE reason why I'd love (or, to borrow from another thread, lust) for a complete turnover of every incumbent in Washington, D.C. If the entire thing was turned over to mentally ill people from the asylum, it couldn't be any worse than the ruling class has made it.

Doesn't bother me a bit.

She dabblED in witchcraft and Obama went to Muslim schools. She dabblED in witchcraft and Rangal is a tax cheat. She dabblED in witchcraft and Sen. Byrd was in the KKK.

nothing to come on about... at least i dont think. yeah, I may be liberal in some of my thinking, but that is not why I posted. The only reason I posted the question is that when think of Tea Party, I think of extreme conservative with strong relgious background. maybe I just dont understand the party is all.

Look I understand your leaning and it's fine. I won't buy into stereotypes put out by the political elite if you won't ok?

When you think of Tea Party in the future.. think of T. E. A. or Taxed Enough Already. It's literally a ground swell against the elite political establishment in both parties. Mostly Conservative? Absolutely.. as that is mainstream fly over America... but It has no Head Leader as others have clearly said although many are trying to claim it. It's an uniquely American movement to return to founding principles that birthed this Nation. It's the mainstream right thinking American individual from ALL walks of life ( I've been to a few locally - where all races were represented )... that doesn't want to wake up tomorrow and look just like a socialist Europe.

With one click of the mouse I found this,

Mission Statement
The impetus for the Tea Party movement is excessive government spending and taxation. Our mission is to attract, educate, organize, and mobilize our fellow citizens to secure public policy consistent with our three core values of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government and Free Markets.

Core Values
Fiscal Responsibility
Constitutionally Limited Government
Free Markets

Fiscal Responsibility: Fiscal Responsibility by government honors and respects the freedom of the individual to spend the money that is the fruit of their own labor. A constitutionally limited government, designed to protect the blessings of liberty, must be fiscally responsible or it must subject its citizenry to high levels of taxation that unjustly restrict the liberty our Constitution was designed to protect. Such runaway deficit spending as we now see in Washington D.C. compels us to take action as the increasing national debt is a grave threat to our national sovereignty and the personal and economic liberty of future generations.

Constitutionally Limited Government: We, the members of The Tea Party Patriots, are inspired by our founding documents and regard the Constitution of the United States to be the supreme law of the land. We believe that it is possible to know the original intent of the government our founders set forth, and stand in support of that intent. Like the founders, we support states' rights for those powers not expressly stated in the Constitution. As the government is of the people, by the people and for the people, in all other matters we support the personal liberty of the individual, within the rule of law.

Free Markets: A free market is the economic consequence of personal liberty. The founders believed that personal and economic freedom were indivisible, as do we. Our current government's interference distorts the free market and inhibits the pursuit of individual and economic liberty. Therefore, we support a return to the free market principles on which this nation was founded and oppose government intervention into the operations of private business.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A visit to a local Dallas Tea Party Planning Committee meeting yielded an even simpler mission statement for the "model nationally for Tea Parties" according to National Public Radio (NPR).

These are the five principles of the Dallas Tea Party and have been adopted by The Common Sense Network (a network of Texas Tea Party Groups).
1. Limited Government
2. Fiscal Responsibility
3. Personal Responsibility
4. The Rule of Law
5. National Sovereignty

There is no endorsement of Candidates for the group and the group does not allow politicians or candidates to speak at rallys. They are firmly distant from the Republican Party and pledge no alliegence to any partisan, party, or candidate based on anything less than their adhearance to the following 5 Principles of the Tea Party Movement. Their immediate agenda is to move towards Primary Elections and influence the candidates at that level. Where they will be in the 2010 elections is anyones guess, but no one is safe in their political career at this point with this group.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other Tea Party Principles often mentioned are the 9-12 Principles as established by Glenn Beck of Fox News:
The 9 Principles
1. America Is Good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
God “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” from George Washington’s first Inaugural address.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is known. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

The 12 Values

* Honesty
* Reverence
* Hope
* Thrift
* Humility
* Charity
* Sincerity
* Moderation
* Hard Work
* Courage
* Personal Responsibility
* Gratitude

These are the principles of the Tea Party Movement. .

The Tea party is for the following (for starters)

1. Firing corrupt politicians including Pelosi, Reid, Rangal, Castle, etc.

2. Repealing Obamacare (I'm wondering if the dems are for that too since they aren't running on the basis that they passed it.)

3. Stopping cap and trade

4. Supporting Israel

5. Reigning in Iran

6. Protecting our borders

7. Going after terrorists

8. Lower taxes including a fair tax

9. Doing away with the death tax permanently

10. States rights

you have to stand for something. have ideas and be able to look ahead to be sucessful. the tea party stands against ideas and progressive thinking. they just want to stop spending and stop taxing. very simple i suppose. just stop living. that will do it. i will not vote for people that cant run their own affairs. i will not vote for people that have went bankrupt but some how they know how to get the country out of debt. give me a moderate any day with experience and i will vote for them.

Taking a stand

Taking a stand against things IS taking a stand.

Like I am against high taxes.

I am FOR lower taxes.

It is dishonest to simply repeat misinformation about people when you have been presented with different facts.

From what I reading from your post is that you don't stand for the things that this country was founded on and Christ in not a focus point in your life. Also you would like to see our country go complely under socialism. Not saying that you do, but that the thought that I'm geting from your post. :?:

Okay -- now this, folks, is Exhibit A in the point that trying to Christianize America is idolatry. How on Earth can anybody in their right mind arrive at this conclusion --- "Christ is not a focus point in your life" --- from this starting point: "from what I reading [sic] in your post"? From point A to point B of that journey, a HUGE leap is taken.

Christ is not and never has been the focus point of America. America was not established for Jesus Christ, and if it was, He didn't ask for it and in fact, has no use for it then or now. I don't say that to bash America at all. But, there's positively nothing about the United States of America that is about the kingdom of God. If Jesus wants America, He could be king of America. His kingdom, though, is not of this world. America is useless to Him. To offer it to Him, no matter how noble the intent, is to offer Him an idol, an image of something perceived as valuable by the offeror ("us") but wholly without use or redemption to Him.

While I'm sure Paully and I would disagree over the merits of the size and scope of government, it is true that his understanding of why and how America would be better or not better is no closer to nor farther from Christ than yours.

This tendency to size anyone up as a believer in Jesus by HOW they approach the operations of politics and civil government is a tool of deception and a distraction from the faith. I firmly believe that, and I am convinced that it isn't how much government we want that destroys us, but that we want it at all when there is a REAL government on the shoulders of our Savior that is begging for our allegiance and our to-the-death devotion, a government whose goals, means, policies and ways are in the most literal sense not of this world.
