blood pressure issues

I went to my new doc last week and he informed me that my bp was elevated. He was concerned and told me to check it daily and keep a running tally till I return in 3 weeks at which time he will check my cuff with his and decide whether to place me on meds or not. I say NOT!

Anyhow this weekend it grew gradually worse. Monday I woke up at 5am feeling great. By 6am I had a pounding headache, a fast pulse, and I was dizzy, etc. All day I was ill even when I went to bed that night I was fighting a headache.

Today I feel great though I am sure it is elevated a bit. I will check after lunch. Sunday it was 165/1/2 and Monday it was 145/105 after lunch.

I have begun taking aspirin to try and help and the doc told me to take 4000mg of Omega 3 fish oils a day which I have begun.

Do you know of any remedies besides apple cider vinegar? I'm out on that!

This is all new to me and I don't know why. Of course I don't have the best diet in the world as I am a sweet freak. I love cakes and cookies, etc. I have eliminated McDonald's and Krispy Kreme from my diet altogether. No doughnuts, no chicken nuggets. IF I eat fast food it's a chicken sandwich from Wendy's, Chickfila, or Arbys for the most part.
I am a bottled water drinker now and rarely drink soda any more. I will have sweet tea occasionally at a restaurant. I urinate several times a night now due to my water intake and all of the sudden I have this stain on my lower front teeth that was never there when I drank Pepsi all the time.

Danny, the best thing you can do is what you have started. I was on blood pressure meds for almost 5 years. It barley kept it in check. After losing 30 lbs and a exercise routine ( I used yard work for my excuse no to get a regular routine starter...) My b/p went to normal. I have not used any meds for almost two years now and feel great.

Statin drugs can cause more problem than they cure. I know it sounds like a broken record but, diet ad exercise is the only cure...everythig else is just a mask or cover up.

prayer is happening.

i don't condone or condemn this, but I have heard from a guy at work (non-Christian), that this works:
http://www.levodyn.com/

not sure if you are a tea or coffee drinker, I notice you are reducing/stopping sodapop, but any kind of caffeine intake is problematic for HBP.

I have never really had a problem with it, but as a preventative, when I turned 40, I stopped using salt on most everything. (I now use cayenne pepper to taste, instead)

two more suggestions that are more physical and introspective: relationship (work/family, etc)-related stress, and exercise. reduce the former, and increase the latter. :) do you have a local man-friend that you can sharpen iron with?

again, by personal example (preventative), I also play paintball. seems like high-stress, but for me, it is a stress outlet. my hobby, a time of relax and exercise combined. are you a fisherman, perhaps? (paintball ain't for everyone).

Because of my back issues, surgery and physical therapy, I have not been able to exercise like I need & want to though I have maintained my gym membership for the past year anyhow. Just last week the therapist released me to return to the gym so exercise is in my very near future.

I love the smell but hate the taste of coffee.

I am sorry to hear your condition. Good to know that you are able to exercise now in your gym to keep your blood pressure in normal. You must be aware also in the food you eat. We will pray for your progress.

OK, so I was prescribed meds which I have not started.

I am watching my calories, eating much better, walking, and have lost 7 lbs. since Friday. I feel much better and am trying this method before the meds.

I understand that a bad back limits exercise. I use a recumbent bike so I can "ride" without pain. You sit on it like a chair. Got mine @ WM for less than $100.00. Lots of used ones on Craigslist as well.

It helps a lot to sit and ride while reading, studying, watching movies, etc. Kills 2 birds with one time period.

Also, eliminated about 90% of my salt intake. I use pepper and garlic powder for my seasonings. I NEVER add salt and rarely use canned foods because of the high salt content in them.

I used to have high bp that meds could barely control. with my weight loss and eating habit changes, I have been normal for over 5 years with NO meds.

I know it's hard, but you are on the right path. I would recommend no more sandwiches from fast food places. They are loaded with salt and fats. Have salads with no dressing, or very little dressing, instead.

NO SWEET TEA, either. Sorry. But, between the high sugar content AND the high caffeine in the teas they use, it's a double whammy for your bp and your health in general.

I have lost 13 lbs since New Years. Walking, running, and working out coupled with counting calories has made the difference. BP is down!

keep it up.

I ran my first 10k & 12k in December. Traininig for those really kept me committed to my running program. I'd recommend it. Most events have walkers as well as runners.
