Sister Kathy has been suffering from cancer for almost two years now. This is the latest message from her husband, Bishop Bill Isaacs:
It is with a heavy heart and deep emotion I inform you that Jeremy, Jason, Corrie, Andrea and I have decided to end all medical attempts for Kathy and bring her home today. This was her wish that should we reach a point where no options were available, she would come home for her final days. At our request she was discharged and hospice arranged for her transport here to the parsonage.
Her CT scans yesterday revealed additional spread of the cancer into other areas of her body and we were notified she is not a candidate for surgery to relieve the bowel obstruction or any future procedures. We reached this decision after day long consultations with doctors and family. Our family is here and all of us have come to the painful conclusion that this is the thing to do. We are hoping and praying these coming days will allow us to enjoy our family and to share in the time with Kathy. We are confident we have done all we could to give Kathy every chance to survive this ordeal and yet we have peace that she has always been in God's hands and there is no safer place to be in all the world. Our love for Kathy is absolute and even typing these words is difficult. God can always do whatever He chooses and the possibility of a last minute miracle would not be unprecedented. Barring that, we accept that God is good, He would never hurt any of us and in His perfect plan all of this will perhaps one day make sense.
I'll keep updating as we go ahead and believe these days will be as the others, full of grace and mercy and provide our family with precious moments of love.
You are in our hearts and we ask only for your prayers.
I remember when Bill worked at COG Headquarters in Cleveland. I sang in the choir with Kathy. Her brother, Tim Lanier, pastors the College Park Church of God in Huntsville, Alabama. Please pray for this precious family.
