Wondering aloud.....

Postby dolfan » February 21st, 2011, 7:40 am

I don't know about you, or if I'm anywhere close to right, but I wonder if there is a love wave headed toward the Muslim African and the Arab nations from the West over the protests throughout that region.

Events in Libya, including the as-I-type-this use of military force by Libya's government on protesters there, behind the Egyptian revolution/coup/protests, are bathed in western media glee.

I don't paint in strokes too broad for the point. Christians in Egypt, for example, express cautious optimism and they know something about suffering. I don't know what to think at this point. I am suspicious, though, because anything that the media culture embraces is largely anti-Christian.

Not wanting to get into debates over Israel's, middle-east end time events, I will give a few thoughts.

First, I am not completely surprised by the media's response of glee. I thdo not think that it is because of the peoples new found (freedom ??)of voice. But rather a twisted sense of jubulation over the defeat of several dictators that have been largely backed by the US. So they the liberal media see it as a defeat for the American Policy.

I understand the concern of the Christians in these areas. While they have suffered greatly, their has been a measure of at least knowing what to expect. Should the muslim brotherhood gain more power and if these nations could come together under that banner, I fear and I believe the christians in these countries also fear that the level of persecution would hit a grand scale. I know that their prayers are that they will see a greater freedom.

The church in the west stands at a crossroad....just as we did in Japan, Russian, how will we respond? Will we stick our heads in the sand, take a lazi affair attitude, or respond with an outpouring of care not just in words but in deed.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting
and preserving yourself.

Yeah, I'm not interested in an end-times debate on that, either!!

What can believers in America do? Pray, yes. How can we marry that with other action to help persecuted believers in those nations?
